Trump reignites climate feud with Democrats as he slams ‘horrible energy policies’ in fiery rant
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump reignited political tensions around climate change after claiming the United Nations had admitted its own climate projections were “WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!” and accusing “Dumocrats” of using climate activism to “scare Americans” while pushing what he called a “GREEN NEW SCAM.”
Trump made the remarks in a Truth Social post on Sunday, May 17, where he targeted Democrats over climate policy and defended his administration’s approach to energy and environmental issues. The post came as the Trump administration faced criticism from Senate Democrats over proposed cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget.
Trump attacks climate agenda
In his post, Trump wrote, “GOOD RIDDANCE! After 15 years of Dumocrats promising that ‘Climate Change’ is going to destroy the Planet, the United Nations TOP Climate Committee just admitted that its own projections (RCP8.5) were WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!”
He also claimed, “For far too long Climate Activism has been used by Dumocrats to scare Americans, push horrible Energy Polices, and fund BILLIONS into their bogus research programs.”
Trump framed the issue as part of a broader political battle over energy and environmental policy, arguing that Democrats were using “Climate Alarmism nonsense” to advance their agenda.
“Unlike the Dumocrats, who use Climate Alarmism nonsense to push their GREEN NEW SCAM, my Administration will always be based on TRUTH, SCIENCE, and FACT!” he added.
The president’s remarks leaned heavily into the combative tone that has defined many of his attacks on Democratic climate proposals and environmental regulations.
EPA cuts draw criticism
Trump’s post surfaced as Senate Democrats sharply criticized EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin over the administration’s proposed budget cuts for the agency.
Democrats accused the administration of abandoning the EPA’s mission to protect public health and the environment during a Senate hearing last month.
Zeldin defended the proposal, telling senators, “This budget proposal captures significant efficiencies and a return focus on what Congress has directed us to do, demonstrating our commitment to a leaner, more efficient and accountable EPA.”
The EPA has seen staffing reduced “to its lowest level in decades” under Zeldin’s leadership.
Political divide sharpens
Trump’s latest comments further highlighted the widening divide between Republicans and Democrats over climate policy, energy production and federal environmental oversight.
Trump’s post itself reflected the confrontational messaging that continues to drive debate around climate issues inside Washington and across social media.
By repeatedly referring to Democrats as “Dumocrats” and describing climate activism as a political scare tactic, Trump placed cultural and political conflict at the center of his argument rather than focusing on policy specifics.
