WASHINGTON, DC: Amid heightened criticism and scrutiny over his $5,000 election promise to Americans, President Donald Trump reiterated his plan in an ad video posted Monday, Oct 12.
President Trump first announced his plan to send the “dividend” checks to American citizens during a speech at the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas.

President Donald Trump released an ad on Monday morning reaffirming his promise to pay $5,000 to every adult US citizen if Republicans win control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.
In the video ad, Trump reiterated his earlier promise to give all adult US citizens $5,000 if the Republican Party secures a majority in the midterm elections.
Trump also criticized Democratic policies, warning voters that such a payment would not be possible under Democratic leadership.
“I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America $5,000. Democrat policies won’t allow this to happen. In fact, the opposite,” Trump said.
Further warning voters against supporting Democrats, Trump argued that the country’s financial situation would worsen if the opposing party won the elections.
“They’re going to raise your taxes. If the Democrats win, you will have an economic depression. If the Republicans win, you will each have $5,000 in your pocket, and economic success for our country like we have never ever seen before.” Trump added.
What is Trump’s $5k plan?
President Donald Trump on Wednesday, September 9, said that every adult US citizen would receive a $5,000 “dividend” if Republicans won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the November midterm elections.
He described the payment as a return tied to what he called the country’s economic success.
The POTUS said the payment would be called the “Trump dividend."
Trump did not specify an income threshold, a tax-filing requirement, or specific rules for dependents. He said the payment would go to all adult US citizens but did not provide further details about eligibility or how the scheme would work.
"So if the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000," Trump said during the convention.
Based on estimates of the number of adults living in the United States, a $5,000 payment could potentially cost more than $1 trillion.
The Census Bureau does not provide a direct count of adult US citizens, making the precise cost of the proposal unclear.
