WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has weighed in on rumors surrounding Howard Stern’s alleged exit from SiriusXM, taking partial credit for the radio host’s supposed departure, despite there being no confirmation from Stern or the company.
Stern, who has criticized Trump in the past, briefly returned from vacation on Wednesday, August 6, to clarify he would be back live on air on September 2.
Trump made his remarks during an interview with 'Real America’s Voice' reporter Brian Glenn, who wrongly claimed Stern had announced his departure. Trump seized the opportunity to tie Stern’s career trajectory to broader claims about the decline of anti-Trump media.

Trump claims several media personalities are 'going out of business'
Responding to the false premise of Stern’s exit, Trump told Glenn, “Well, it hasn’t worked, and it hasn’t worked for a long time. Colbert has no talent… Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They’re next. They’re going to be going.”

He added, “Howard Stern is a name I haven’t heard. I used to do his show. We used to have fun, but I haven’t heard that name in a long time. What happened? He got terminated?”

Glenn then suggested Stern and SiriusXM were parting ways over salary, to which Trump responded, “You know when he went down? When he endorsed Hillary Clinton, he lost his audience. People said, ‘Give me a break.’ He went down when he endorsed Hillary Clinton.”
Howard Stern clarifies he’s still on air
Despite the rumors, Stern briefly appeared live on Instagram to confirm he is still with SiriusXM and will return to full broadcasts starting September 2. “We’ll be back on the air live. I’ve been refueling, so to speak,” he said.

SiriusXM has not commented on the circulating reports. However, in 2020, Stern signed a new five-year contract with the company following the 2016 election, indicating continued confidence in his popularity and drawing power.
John Melendez defends Howard Stern amid cancellation rumors
As rumors about Stern’s potential cancellation swirl, his former sidekick John Melendez, known to fans as “Stuttering John,” took to social media to defend him. Melendez pushed back against those claiming Stern’s liberal political stance is to blame, writing on X, “If Howard Stern is getting canceled because of his political leanings, then we are not becoming a Fascist nation... We are one!”

Melendez, who departed the show in 2004 before it moved to SiriusXM, has remained outspoken in his support of Stern and his views.
His post highlights the growing concerns among fans and media observers that political bias could play a role in programming decisions at major platforms, though SiriusXM has made no official statement linking the rumored cancellation to Stern’s politics.
In a 2023 earnings call, SiriusXM President Scott Greenstein praised Stern, noting his irreplaceable status in radio: “As for Howard, he’s a singular talent… Howard, we hope he continues forever.”
Though the political discourse around Stern remains charged, no official confirmation supports the notion that his time with SiriusXM is coming to an end.
