PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA: As CNN's 2024 Presidential Debate approaches, both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are gearing up to take the stage.

President Biden is preparing at Camp David, while Trump has been on the campaign trail in Philadelphia. Fox News Correspondent Alexis McAdams spoke with Trump before his rally to learn about his preparations.

Donald Trump expressed confidence in his own abilities

Trump said during his rally at Temple University, "Well, this is really the best strategy right here. We have all these people out here and they are screaming questions. I look forward to the debate."

Trump asked his supporters about the approach he should take on stage, "How should I handle him? Should I be tough and nasty, and just say, 'You're the worst president in history.' Or should I be nice and calm and let him speak?" Trump asked.

Despite his demeanor, Trump expressed to Fox News that he is unconcerned about Biden's debate preparations and remains confident in his own abilities.

"Well, I think if he prepares, he'll be fine. Then he will forget it within about an hour after preparing. So, we'll see what happens. We'll see what happens," Trump joked.

The former president is currently on a tour of swing states, having recently visited Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, and Pennsylvania – states that Trump won in 2016 but lost in 2020.

Recent polls indicate that Trump is faring better in these states. He is gaining support among young and nonwhite voters, who express dissatisfaction with Biden's economic policies and the war in Gaza.

Poll shows Donald Trump leading Joe Biden by two points in Pennsylvania

A recent Marist College Poll shows Trump leading Biden by two points in Pennsylvania, a crucial state for the presidential election. Trump told Fox News that he could be anywhere, but he is opting to visit urban areas, including a cheesesteak shop in South Philly.

"It's not a game plan. It's just there's a lot of love. You know, they want hope. There's no hope with this guy. Biden is the worst president we've ever had." Trump stated.

He went on to say, "There's no hope. I'm saying the people need hope. I go out, I see the greatest people. So, we're in the middle of a pretty rough area and it's a love fest."

Many voters endured hours of waiting in record-breaking heat to attend the rally. They expressed a desire to learn more about the former president's strategies to address border issues, crime, and inflation.

Meanwhile, a recent Fox News Poll revealed that 32 per cent of voters believe the economy is in excellent or good condition, marking the highest approval rating for this aspect during Biden's presidency.

However, conversations with voters seem to reflect a negative sentiment. "I need to make money to feed my family. I used to pay $200 a week for groceries... now I pay $450 a week. I’m not even making that anymore. So, it's killing me," said one Philadelphia voter.

Who is Donald Trump's Vice President pick?

So far, Trump has not revealed his choice for vice president. However, he has stated that he knows whom he will select.

"Well, if you knew that, you would probably be up for a major raise. We have a lot of viewers who say, ‘Who do you like, who do you like? ’There are so many different answers. We have a lot of good ones. I'll be announcing it right around the time of the convention," Trump said.

Following the debate, both candidates intend to remain in the South. Biden is scheduled to visit North Carolina, a state he lost to Trump in 2020.

Meanwhile, Trump will proceed to a rally in Virginia, a state that hasn't been won by a Republican in the presidential race for two decades. The former president aims to reverse this trend.

Trump went on to say, "We are actually two points up in Virginia. Virginia is not a state that a Republican generally wins and has not won in decades. We are leading in Virginia, and we are leading in Minnesota."

He continued, "That one hasn't been won since 1972. I think we're going to win a lot of places that people never even thought about, because our country is in dire shape to put it mildly. It's doing badly."

A recent Fox News survey of registered voters in Virginia indicates that Trump and Biden are tied. The poll, published on June 6, reveals an even split, with both Biden and Trump receiving 48 per cent in a direct contest in Virginia.

Internet slams Donald Trump for taking debate prep to campaign trail

The Internet was not happy about Donald Trump being overconfident about his performance at the debate. One said, "Trump doesn't debate. it will be just like 2016 and 2020 where doesn't follow the agreed upon rules, he talks over his opponent, hurls insults, and never answers the question asked of him. That's all that will happen."

Another user added, "Donald’s debate prep is accusing President Biden of being on drugs. He needs an excuse for his poor performance. It’s got to be rigged. Like everything Donald fails at."

The third commentator wrote, "Trump's losing strategy- IF WE DONT WIN IT'S RIGGED ... but guess what TRUMP IS GOING DOWN -- World Bank - the impressive US economy is powering the world.. thank you joe biden."

"Yeah, because nothing says "winning" like winging it on stage and hoping for the best. I mean, who needs actual preparation when you've got a bunch of made-up words to throw around?" A person questioned.
