WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump slammed California Governor Gavin Newsom as he announced his plan to build low-income housing in Pacific Palisades.

Trump blasts Newsom’s $101M low-income housing plan

Trump wrote on Truth Social, "Can you imagine being so stupid as to destroy one of the best areas in the United States by building Low Income Housing there? The people must be having a 'fit'."

In July 2025, six months after the devastating Palisades and Eaton fires, Governor Gavin Newsom announced $101 million in funding for "multifamily low-income housing development" that would "contribute to a more equitable and resilient Los Angeles." The priority, he said, was for projects located in "geographic proximity to the fire perimeters of the Eaton, Hughes, and Palisades fires."

Newsom stated, "Thousands of families – from Pacific Palisades to Altadena to Malibu – are still displaced, and we owe it to them to help. The funding we’re announcing today will accelerate the development of affordable multifamily rental housing so that those rebuilding their lives after this tragedy have access to a safe, affordable place to come home to."

Jennifer Seeger, the HCD deputy director of the Division of State Financial Assistance, said, "The 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles County have intensified the region's longstanding housing crisis, underscoring the urgent need for multifamily low-income housing development."

"The Multifamily Finance Super NOFA – Los Angeles Disaster (MFSN-LA Disaster) makes funds more accessible to support the development of safe, fire-resilient multifamily low-income housing that will provide long-term stability, protect vulnerable populations, and contribute to a more equitable and resilient Los Angeles," Seeger added.

Internet sides with Donald Trump

Several internet users sided with Donald Trump after he slammed California Governor Gavin Newsom over his plan to build low-income housing in Pacific Palisades.

One user commented on Trump’s Truth Social post, "They did it in Lahaina also. They should be in prison. It's time to investigate all the California fires where DEW weapons destroyed homes and cars, but trees remained standing." Another added, "We are! We want Newsom gone!"

A person wrote, "Newsom will take half the money for himself!" while another remarked, "Gavin Newsom, the left is throwing him against the wall to see if he sticks for 2028. He’s not. President Trump’s post is an example why. This action effects everyone in the immediate area, property values fall, the neighborhoods changes for the worst and crime skyrockets. It’s all so wrong."

One user also said, "He does what he wants regardless of how we vote here," while another commented, "15-minute city made from stollen land."
