WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump proved his knack for unscripted humor when he caught a reporter wearing a face mask during a recent press conference in the Oval Office.

His reaction to the reporter's choice was a classic Trump-style quip that left the internet in stitches.

The return of an infamous ‘fashion’ statement

During the White House press conference on March 26, a reporter wearing a face mask began asking Trump about his stance on handing education control to the states.

“On handing education control to the states, how would you handle a state like California if it were to…” she began.

But before she could finish, Trump stopped her mid-sentence, clearly caught off guard by her choice of attire.

“You know, I haven’t seen a mask in sooo long!” he interrupted. “You’re wearing a mask, so nice of you!”

The former president continued, doubling down on his amusement, stating “I haven’t seen anybody wearing a mask in a long time. It’s good. You feel more comfortable, right?”

“Yes,” the reporter meekly replied.

Internet in splits over Donald Trump's trolling of reporter

The exchange quickly made waves online, with Trump supporters and critics alike sharing their takes. Some found the moment hilarious, seeing it as a much-needed roast of the outdated practice of mask-wearing.

One fan shared, "Seriously who wears masks in 2025."

Another wrote, "Trump said all of that with a straight face."

A different viewer pointed out, "He belittled her in the nicest possible way like a Southern woman saying bless your Heart."

A follower commented, "LOL!!! He is the King of trolling."

One opinion stated, "Trump spares no one! A reporter in a mask in 2025, and he tears him apart: “So comfortable.” The Oval turned into a comedy ring."

Another individual observed, "hahahah damn.. he's the king of roasting!"

As someone explained, "That was hysterical."

The moment also ignited reactions of people saying that some might wear it for personal health reasons.

One person wrote, "Who cares? Maybe his makeup prevents getting sick. He should promote that."

Another said, "Our side should really stop bashing on masks. Many people are immunocompromised or have serious health conditions that put them at high risk of hospitalization or worse from COVID. It's not "a cold". I personally know perfectly healthy, young people who died from it."

For those who remember the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, face masks were an unavoidable part of daily life. Whether in grocery stores, restaurants, or public spaces, people donned them in the belief that they would help prevent the spread of the virus.

However, the effectiveness of face masks, particularly in preventing transmission, has long been debated.

Reportedly, even the most protective masks, like N95s, could not completely block viral particles.

Thankfully, as the pandemic subsided and the world moved forward, face masks became a thing of the past, at least, for most people.
