WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump said in a primetime address that the US military could spend the next two to three weeks carrying out major strikes that would push Iran “back to the Stone Age.” He indicated a more forceful military approach, calling the possible action “extremely hard.”

He added that discussions are still ongoing. At the same time, he warned that if a deal to end the conflict is not reached, the US could target Iran’s power plants and oil fields. He suggested such attacks would have serious consequences for civilians, as damage to key energy infrastructure would disrupt daily life and create widespread uncertainty.

Trump says US will hit Iran ‘extremely hard’ in next two to three weeks

On Wednesday, April 1, Trump spoke to the nation at a key moment in the war the US is carrying out against Iran, his first official address since the conflict began. His primetime speech from the White House came as the war entered its fifth week since the February 28 strike.

Trump said, “We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We are going to bring them back to the stone ages, where they belong.” He also said regime change was not the main goal of the US action.

“Regime change was not our goal. We never said regime change, but regime change has occurred because of all of their original leaders’ deaths. They’re all dead.” He added, “We are on track to complete all of America’s military objectives shortly, very shortly.”

Trump urges oil-dependent nations to help reopen Strait of Hormuz

As per Politico, Trump also urged countries that depend on oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz to step in and help reopen it, as Iran has effectively blocked the route.

“The United States imports almost no oil through the Hormuz Strait and won’t be taking any in the future. We don’t need it. We haven’t needed it, and we don’t need it,” Trump said. “We will be helpful, but they should take the lead in protecting the oil that they so desperately depend on.”

This is not the first time Trump has used the phrase “back to the stone ages” when speaking about Iran. Trump stated that Iran had asked for a ceasefire.

He said he would only consider it after the Strait of Hormuz is reopened. Until then, he wrote, “we are blasting Iran into oblivion” and “back to the Stone Ages!!!”.
