Trump White House slammed for using 30,000 real eggs in annual Easter hunt amid nationwide shortage

WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump's White House is facing flak before the Easter holiday weekend after it was announced earlier in April that around 30,000 real eggs would be used for the annual South Lawn Egg Roll amid a nationwide shortage.
As per the American Egg Board, the annual Easter Egg Roll will take place on April 21 and will feature 30,000 real eggs for guests to decorate and play games with.

White House to use 30,000 real eggs for Easter hunt amid nationwide shortage
Earlier in April, while announcing a new tariff policy, President Donald Trump said, "They were saying that for Easter, 'Please don’t use eggs. Could you use plastic eggs?’ I say we don’t want to do that."
Meanwhile, the American Egg Board has provided eggs to the White House for this event for years, facilitating donations from farmers from across the country, per the Irish Star.
Furthermore, NBC News reported that the board had many internal discussions about providing 30,000 eggs for the egg role amid a nationwide surge in egg prices due to the ongoing bird flu crisis.

However, the board decided to move forward with the event as usual despite the concerns, per the outlet.
Nick Clemens, a spokesman for first lady Melania Trump, informed NBC News, "We are very grateful to our partners who help make the White House Egg Roll come to life each year and especially to the American egg farmers who work hard to supply our nation with quality food."

Meanwhile, Emily Metz, the president and CEO of the Egg Board, informed NBC News that providing real eggs for the Egg Role "will not create additional strain on the nation’s egg supply or egg prices."
Metz stated, "The heart of this event is about bringing joy to children and families, and in these difficult times for egg farmers, it’s important to celebrate wherever we can."
