OCHOPEE, FLORIDA: President Donald Trump’s administration’s new Florida migrant detention center has sparked outrage, with some even comparing it to the Nazis' Auschwitz concentration camp.

On Tuesday, July 1, the POTUS visited "Alligator Alcatraz" in South Florida, a facility surrounded by alligator-infested swamps in the Everglades. Trump said, "Pretty soon, this facility will handle the most menacing migrants, some of the most vicious people on the planet."

Donald Trump joked about the reptile-infested waters surrounding the facility, saying, "We’re going to teach them [detainees] how to run away from an alligator if they escape prison."

During his visit, the POTUS was accompanied by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The detention center is located approximately 50 kilometers west of Miami, on a remote airstrip surrounded by swamps filled with alligators and pythons in the Florida Everglades.

During the visit, Trump remarked, "We're surrounded by miles of treacherous swampland and the only way out is really deportation."

The harsh conditions of the detention center reflect the Trump administration’s hardline stance on illegal immigration and its consequences.

Trump jokingly added, "A lot of bodyguards and a lot of cops in the form of alligators, you don't have to pay them so much. I wouldn't want to run through the Everglades for long. It will keep people where they're supposed to be."

Meanwhile, DeSantis announced that the detention center would open on Wednesday, July 3, and that detainees would begin arriving the same day.

He also noted that the facility, constructed in just eight days, has the capacity to hold around 3,000 detainees.

The camp is equipped with more than 200 security cameras, 8,500 meters of barbed wire, and 400 security personnel, according to CBS News.

Addressing those in the country illegally who might be watching on television, Kristi Noem said they still have a chance to "self-deport" and eventually return to the US legally.

"If you don't, you may end up here. And you may end up here and being processed, deported out of this country, and never get the chance to come back," Noem said.

Internet compares Donald Trump's 'Alligator Alcatraz' with Nazis' Auschwitz concentration camp

Several internet users have drawn disturbing comparisons between the Trump administration’s new migrant detention facility, dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” and the Nazis’ Auschwitz concentration camp.

A user wrote on X, "One is a photo from Auschwitz the other, in Florida. This is definitely a concentration camp. #AlligatorAuschwitz absolutely disgusting!" while one added, "The difference between the image on the left and the two photos on the right? The Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps didn’t have alligators. Aside from that, these are very much the same images of concentration camps."

A third person stated, "It’s a Nazi concentration camp. Ghouls. Deranged ghouls. #AlligatorAuschwitz," while another posted, "Call it what it really is. Alligator Auschwitz. Disgraceful. America has lost its moral compass."

One user commented, "Take a look at these images from "Alligator Alcatraz" This is a modern day internment camp, built without due process, without human rights protections, and on land that should be protected. It is a waste of resources that should go towards the actual needs of our communities." Another comment read, "As someone else said, this is " Alligator Auschwitz" in Nazi held Florida. Coming to Arkansas soon."
