NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson claims that his then-boss Donald Trump did not prefer to surround himself with "'yes' people" during his conversation with CNN host Jake Tapper on the May 19 episode of 'State of the Union."

Carson praised his former boss Trump during a discussion with CNN host Jake Tapper on the May 19 episode of 'State of the Union.' He also opened up about his stance on abortion laws, noting that he had previously spoken in favor of national legislation on the subject, The Hill reports. This contrasts with Trump’s April statement that abortion laws should be left to the states.

Ben Carson says Donald Trump likes to have 'healthy discussions'

“President Trump does not like to surround himself with ‘yes’ people. And he likes to have healthy discussions about things and recognize that in terms of saving the lives of (the) unborn he has done more than any other president. So I give him much credit for that,” Carson told Tapper.

He also appeared to have shifted his position to be more in sync with Trump, stating, "I think I agree completely with his idea of shifting it to the states. And the reason that it should be shifted to the states (is) because the discussions can take place between the legislators and the people. That’s where it’s supposed to be. That’s where it should have been in the first place."

In 2016, Carson had run as a GOP Presidential candidate along with Trump, before dropping out of the race and endorsing the latter. He has already endorsed the ex-president in his second bid for the White House.

While he admitted to not talking with the former President about being his running mate this time, Carson has reportedly expressed his desire to debate VP Kamala Harris.

"I would certainly be willing to discuss policies, the differences. You know we have a unique situation where you (can) juxtapose two different administrations with different philosophies. And people can see how that one feels versus how did the other feel, and I would love to debate with, with her or with anyone,” he shared.
