NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: During his July 5 appearance on CNN, Van Jones criticized President Joe Biden for what he described as a disconnect from "reality," particularly highlighted during Biden's recent interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos.

Jones shared his views on Biden's first interview after the debate, where Biden dismissed criticisms about his fitness for office, despite concerns expressed within his own party and among potential voters.

Biden, showing signs of hoarseness, spent a significant portion of the 22-minute interview with Stephanopoulos evading questions on his competence, whether he would take a cognitive test, and his standing in the polls.

Jim Sciutto  and Van Jones question Joe Biden's ability

CNN's Jim Sciutto noted that Biden focused on discussing potential policies for a second term during the interview. He asked Jones if he believed Biden could still effectively advocate for the party despite mounting concerns over his ability to complete another four-year term in office.

“Look, the presidency, it turns out, is a speaking role. It’s a speaking role. You’ve gotta be able to talk, you got to be able to do interviews, you got to be able to give speeches, you gotta be able to debate. It’s a speaking role," Jones said.

He continued, "Everybody goes, ‘Well that’s not’ — no, yes, of course you got to be able to make decisions behind closed doors. But that’s — the presidency is a special role, it’s a speaking role. I thought today you saw more of the Biden that you could feel some confidence in because it’s just the typical voice: a little soft, a little stumbly, bumbly, but nothing alarming, nothing that would panic, nothing that would have you running out the door."

Jones said Biden's subpar performance during the presidential debate was problematic for the campaign's momentum while acknowledging that he improved during the ABC interview.

Jones highlighted Biden's caring nature but emphasized the importance of not being detached from reality, despite the reluctance to admit difficulties publicly.

"And what you love about Biden, in general, is that big heart and he cares, but you don’t want somebody who’s detached from reality."

He further stated, “And I think the problem that you have — the panic happening in the party — is people think this guy is detached from reality, he’s got a guard of people around him that won’t tell him the truth and he’s just being stubborn. And I think he did not help himself on that point tonight."

"He’s no longer ‘Hidin’ Biden,’ give him credit for that. He came out, he talked, he did the interview — that’s good — but he still is not dealing with the reality of how bad this is."

Reportedly, Democrats raised concerns about President Biden's mental fitness following his difficulty in completing statements during the first 2024 presidential debate.

A CBS/YouGov poll after the debate indicated that 72% of Americans now doubt Biden's ability to serve as president due to his mental and cognitive health, marking a seven-point increase from before the event.

Internet reacts to Van Jones' remarks

Netizens did not agree with Jones' thoughts regarding Biden’s first post-debate interview as many slammed him for changing tune on Biden's capability.

One viewer said, "If CNN and Credibility met they wouldn't recognize each other."

Another viewer said, "What standing does a communist have to lecture an American audience on dealing with "reality", as though he knew anything about it?"

One viewer noted, "The Democrats and their state-run media are looking very foolish these days. Their own (big) guy is outing them for the lies they've been telling for four years. 😁👍"

A follower observed, ""Not on the stage."

Another way of saying, "I found his house, but the lights were off and nobody was home."

One comment read, "It's positively sweet seeing CNN and MSNBC eating their own crap NOW.. You always hear about the embedded media in all the wars but we have the embedded media in the White House. But will they change and be honest? NEVER!!! They will just move on continuing to hate Trump even though he is the sole reason they are still in business. Karma is great."

Another comment read, "Coup is crumbling."

"WOW!!! CNN's favorite Communist is bad mouthing Biden, again. Who could have seen that coming? The quick turning against Biden of so much MSM at once sorta makes it look like this is organized. Organized by someone who realized there is no way Biden can beat Trump. Someone wants a new puppet," explained one person.
