Victoria Beckham finally addresses rift with son Brooklyn: 'We’ve tried to protect our children'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Victoria Beckham has spoken publicly for the first time about her son Brooklyn Beckham’s distance from the family. She defended herself and her husband, David Beckham, against claims that they were trying to “control the narratives” around Brooklyn’s life.
She also denied accusations of “trying endlessly to ruin” his relationship with Brooklyn’s wife, Nicola Peltz. Victoria said she has always loved her children and has tried her best to be a good parent.
Earlier, Brooklyn accused his parents of being controlling. In early 2026, he said he had no interest in reconciling.
Victoria Beckham talks about her son Brooklyn Beckham
In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal published April 16, Victoria Beckham shared her side of the story.
“I think that we’ve always, we love our children so much,” she said when asked about the relationship with her children. “We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it.”
Speaking about her son, she also said that the negative press has not affected her business. “I think that ultimately people are buying my product because the product is really good,” she said. “I don’t think they’re buying my eyeliner just because it’s me.”
Romeo Beckham, Cruz Beckham, and Harper Beckham remain close to their parents but Brooklyn has been involved in a family rift for about three years.
Brooklyn Beckham's feud with his parents
Earlier this year, Brooklyn posted a lengthy message on Instagram, openly discussing issues with his parents, Victoria and David Beckham. He said they were controlling "narratives in the press about our family" and making "performative social media posts."
He accused them of "trying endlessly to ruin (his) relationship" and even "hijacking" his and Nicola Peltz’s first dance at their wedding. In the same post, Brooklyn made it clear he was not "being controlled." Instead, he said he was "standing up for (himself) for the first time in (his) life" and that he did "not want to reconcile with (his) family.”
He also mentioned his mother in the post. He claimed she had "canceled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress." At that time, David and Victoria did not respond directly. Later that month, David spoke with CNBC about social media. He said he tells his children to use it “for the right reasons.”
