Tennessee Woman Helps Elderly DoorDash Driver Retire, Raises $600K for Him

A brief doorbell camera clip of an elderly Tennessee DoorDash driver has prompted a remarkable local and online response — generating more than $600,000 in donations to help him retire. The footage, shared by Manchester resident Brittany Smith, shows an old man carefully navigating her porch steps while delivering a Starbucks order, a moment that resonated as the video quickly racked up millions of views on social media. Smith tracked down the driver, identified only as Richard, at his home and learned that he had resumed working well past typical retirement age, in part to cover routine expenses and medications after his wife, Brenda, lost her job. Moved by their situation, Smith launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Give Richard a Chance to Rest Again.” What began with a modest goal quickly ballooned as thousands of donors from across the country contributed, pushing the total past $610,000 in just days. Smith shared a Facebook video capturing her meetup with the elderly couple at a diner, presenting them with a portion of the donations. “My adopted grandparents - what a journey these last few days have been!” she wrote.
