ORLANDO, FLORIDA: A viral bodycam footage from a University of Central Florida police encounter is gaining renewed attention after capturing a self-described transgender student repeatedly shouting “Stop misgendering me” during a confrontation that escalated into the use of pepper spray, a Taser and an arrest.

Filmed during an on-campus incident in February 2025, the video has now resurfaced online garnering millions of views across social media platforms.

Bodycam footage shows viral confrontation

The encounter unfolded on 5th February, 2025 when a University of Central Florida police officer arrived at a campus building for an unrelated call.

As the officer approached, 27-year-old Jarrett Vick began loudly questioning the officers’ presence and challenging their involvement.

Bodycam footage shows the officer repeatedly urging Vick to lower their voice and stay calm, but the situation quickly escalated.

After calling for backup and suggesting over the radio that Vick appeared to be in distress, the officer was interrupted as Vick shouted that the wrong pronouns were being used.

During the exchange, Vick can be heard repeatedly yelling “She!” and insisting officers stop referring to them as “he,” saying the repeated misgendering was causing significant emotional distress.

When the officer again referred to Vick as “he”, the student erupted, shouting, “She! She! She! Stop misgendering me.”

As the confrontation intensified, officers issued multiple warnings for Vick to comply.

When verbal efforts failed, one officer drew pepper spray, signaling a shift in response.

A university employee briefly attempted to calm the situation, but the intervention did not succeed in de-escalating tensions.

Police ultimately used pepper spray, and later another responding officer deployed a Taser after authorities said Vick attempted to kick and swing at officers while resisting detention.

The footage ends with Vick being placed in handcuffs and escorted to a patrol vehicle before being driven away from campus.

Charges filed after chaos

Jarrett Vick, of Treasure Island, Florida, was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Vick pleaded not guilty to all three charges, and the cases were later closed following court proceedings.

After the bodycam footage resurfaced online, Vick, while speaking to The New York Post, accused police of harassment and criticized the renewed attention, saying the video’s circulation had brought unwanted media scrutiny.

The footage continues to spread across social media, with audiences split over whether officers acted appropriately or if the situation could have been handled differently.
