Vontae Davis: Fans pay condolences as ex-NFL star is found dead at 35 in Florida home, call him 'a true talent'

SOUTHWEST RANCHES, FLORIDA: Former NFL star Vontae Davis who retired in 2018 died at the age of 35. The retired player was found lifeless in Southwest Ranches, Florida on Monday morning, April 1, the Davie Police Department reported.

According to the Miami Fox-affiliate WSVN, Davis’ body was found in a home owned by Davis’ grandmother, Adaline Davis. Officers responded to the residence “in reference to a medical call” made by the house assistant, per the police.

No foul play is involved in Vontae Davis' death

“Preliminary information suggests that foul play is not involved,” the statement read. “The investigation remains ACTIVE.”

Davis was a cornerback for the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills, reports People.



 

Vontae Davis unexpectedly retired from the NFL during halftime in 2018

A two-time Pro Bowler, Davis was also well-known for abruptly retiring from the NFL at halftime in 2018. Sports Illustrated reported that Davis, who was playing for the Bills at the time, put on his street clothes, walked out of the stadium, and decided to retire. 

In an official statement announcing his retirement, Davis said, “This isn’t how I pictured retiring from the NFL. But today on the field, reality hit me and hard. I shouldn’t be out there anymore.”

Internet is upset about Vontae Davis' demise

Fans also paid respect and condolences after Davis' death.

One fan tweeted, "Jesus that’s horrible. I remember him getting traded on hard knocks. Was wild to see that in real time. He was a solid player for a while. Always seemed maybe a little different though. Sad to hear this. Only a year older than me smh." 



 

Another wrote, "Sad news. Deepest condolences to Vontae Davis's family and loved ones during this difficult time."

"This is a damn shame. Funniest thing ever was when he was on hard knocks asking if he was being cut because he had to take care of his grandma or something. I forgot the scene but it was gold. A true talent", tweeted one fan. 



 



 

"Damn I know he struggled mentally with playing before he abruptly retired. Really hoping that’s not what he died from RIP," said one fan and another tweeted, "I knew we should have someone watching over him after he retired at halftime. RIP young man."
