WASHINGTON, DC: Michael Steele, the Republican National Committee's former chair, rebuked ex-president Donald Trump's lead in polls, irrespective of the multiple felony charges against him, as an "abomination," The Hill reported.

The presumptive GOP nominee and his Democratic opponent, President Joe Biden, are in a head-to-head race to re-enter the White House, where the former is slightly ahead of the incumbent.

According to the latest poll from The New York Times and Siena College, Trump has 46% support, against Biden's 45%. Similarly, the ex-president has a 0.6 percent lead against his opponent, as per the aggregate of polls by The Hill/Decision Desk HQ.

Trump's narrow lead against Biden enraged Steele in light of the four criminal indictments against the GOP candidate, out of which the New York hush money trial will start on April 15.

Michael Steele fumes at Republican Party

MSNBC's Stephanie Ruhle on Thursday, April 11, pressed the former RNC chair about the possibility of the Republican Party nominee being a felon, which people might not be bothered about.

"It says a lot about us, doesn't it?" Steele sighed. "It says a lot less about the party, than it does about us as citizens. That we even countenance this right now and that we put this man in the pole position to be the next president of the United States, having him leading poll after poll," he added.

"It is an abomination, it's embarrassing," the ex-RNC chair, an outspoken critic of the former president, declared.

Besides the general election polls, Trump clearly dominated the Republican primary contest against GOP opponents, including Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, nearly sweeping the primaries and caucuses.

Steele then pointed out how desperate the voters were for believing Trump would be able to solve their issues.

"America's never looked to one person to do that — we've all kind of done that together in the past," he stressed.

This is the latest of Steele's relentless rebukes of the Republican White House hopeful who currently holds control of the RNC, led by his daughter-in-law Lara Trump and ally Michael Whatley.

Trump faces 88 criminal charges over four indictments for allegedly attempting to overturn the 2020 election, instigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, the hush money case, and the mishandling of classified documents. Trump has pleaded not guilty in all cases.

Internet slams Michael Steele

Social media users dismissed Steele's criticism against Trump's polling lead, blasting him for being a RINO (Republican in name only).

One user wrote, "Lol. Washed up RINO big mad."

"There you go again, Michael Steele, bad mouthing Trump. What a waste of time. I don’t like him any better than you do, but play your cards on positives. Do something positive for your black community and culture. Chicago blacks need your help," another person remarked.

A third user argued, "Steele is the abomination." A fourth response read, "Michael Steele sold his soul for a low price."

"RINOs like Michael Steele are an abomination. I am a small government, lower taxes, more personal freedom kind of conservative. The uniparty swamp dwellers are panicking, and Steel leads the panicked," someone else said. An enraged individual wrote, "Degenerate democrat propaganda merchant spewing nonsense."

A remark read, "Steele is a political hack." Meanwhile, another added, "To the uniparty grifters like Steele there is no innocent until proven guilty, there is no justice system. You are guilty until proven innocent if you stand in their way."
