RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA: Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, the Republican Party's newly crowned gubernatorial candidate for North Carolina, is making waves for all the wrong reasons.

In a resurfaced video from a 2020 event, Robinson boldly stated he would “absolutely” prefer a return to an America where women didn’t have the right to vote—a shocking stance from someone vying for office, presumably with female voters' support.

“I absolutely want to go back to the America where women couldn’t vote,” he reportedly said at a March 2020 event hosted by the Republican Women of Pitt County.

Mark Robinson calls the pre-women voting era 'great'

Mark Robinson recalled being asked which version of America he believed was "great," one where "Black people were swinging from cheap trees," or one where women couldn’t vote.

He sided with the latter, arguing it was a time when Republicans fought for "real social change."

Robinson's comments left the room nearly silent, save for a faint "that’s right" from the crowd. He went on to claim that Republicans were responsible for ending Jim Crow laws.

In reality, lawmakers from both parties, along with President Lyndon Johnson, played a key role in dismantling Jim Crow by passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

Donald Trump calls Mark Robinson 'Martin Luther King on steroids'

Nevertheless, another resurfaced clip from March 2024 shows former president Donald Trump endorsing GOP candidate Mark Robinson at a Greensboro rally.

Trump praised Robinson, calling him "Martin Luther King on steroids" and even claimed he was "better than" the iconic civil rights leader.

"I think you're better than Martin Luther King. I think you are Martin Luther King times two," Trump remarked.

Outrage after Mark Robinson's clip on women's voting rights went viral

Mark Robinson's controversial remarks about wanting to return to an era where women couldn't vote have set social media ablaze. Netizens took to social media to brutally slam the North Carolina gubernatorial candidate.

"This character is going to cost North Carolina BIGLY!!" tweeted one X user.

"I don't think MLK would approve of him or Trump," added another.

"Mark Robinson’s plan for the future is... the past," said one person.

"Ladies in North Carolina, please tell Mr. Robinson where he can go...," added another.

"Republican Family Values!" one individual exclaimed.

"I thought trump was the worst. This pig pulls a pretty close second. Jd is fighting over both their places," added another.

"WOW if Mark Robinson just goes back 60 more years before women got the right to vote to 1860. His white supporters could yank him out of the Gov's mansion and put him to work picking cotton! Dumb is what dumb says," claimed one person.

"How in the world could ANY woman voter in North Carolina vote for Mark Robinson for Governor who wants to take away a woman's right to vote. This has got to be the dumbest campaign I've ever seen," commented one person.

"The @GOP is fostering a deeply misogynistic culture that attacks women’s rights and autonomy at every turn," remarked another.
