WASHINGTON, DC: Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi discussed her alleged role in persuading President Joe Biden to suspend his reelection campaign during an interview with comedian and talk show host Bill Maher on Friday, August 30 episode of 'Real Time.'

According to the Daily Mail, the senior congresswoman is widely accused of being a key player in convincing the 81-year-old incumbent to step aside and allow Kamala Harris to lead the Democratic ticket.

Nancy Pelosi on the presidential candidate swap of the Democrats

Nancy Pelosi discussed her efforts to encourage more women to run for office during her appearance on the HBO show.

"Many times when I'm encouraging people to run, especially more women, to run for office. Nothing more wholesome in our political process than that, aren't we excited about..." she said, before Maher interjected with, "Yes, and sometimes you're discouraging people to run... we're not going to get into that."

"Well, people make their own decisions," replied Pelosi, smiling at the obvious jibe at Biden.

"Oh absolutely they do," insisted Maher, as the audience laughed out. "But I want to say, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for what you didn't do."

"When Joe stepped down, did you want it to be an open convention as opposed to going right to Kamala?" he went on to ask, to which the Congresswoman responded, "It was open. Anybody could have gotten in. She wrapped it up, you have to give her credit for that."

Nancy Pelosi's opinion on the subject of immigration

The discussion between Bill Maher and Nancy Pelosi also touched on immigration, with Maher bringing up a California bill aimed at helping undocumented immigrants buy houses.

Pelosi claimed not to have an opinion on the bill itself, as she was unaware of the details. However, she expressed support for making the American dream accessible to more people.

"Understand this about immigration- the best speech on immigration was by President Ronald Reagan," said Pelosi, referring to the address where the former Republican President declared that immigrants were one of the country's greatest strengths. She also noted that George HW Bush continued this pro-immigration policy.

Maher pointed out that the controversy surrounding the bill stemmed from its assistance to undocumented immigrants. Pelosi responded, "Well, what I would like to do is move them to documented... One of the best things we can do for our economy is to pass comprehensive immigration reform."

Conservatives slam Nancy Pelosi for her take on immigration

MAGA supporters reacting to Nancy Pelosi's speech on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) derided her for her support of immigrants. The following tweets demonstrate the prevalent take.

"They are willing to bankrupt the country to establish one-party control and rule over a 3rd world disaster," wrote a user.

"The end game here is to create a steady stream of new Democrat voters to ensure that people like Nancy Pelosi stay in power forever," shared another.

"You know you have entered an entirely different realm of corruption when they no longer care about keeping the quiet part quiet, in fact, they want to say it," expressed a third.

"You notice she says nothing about helping Americans or about how they're going to pay for this," jibed another.

"The problem is these democrats don’t even know what the American dream is! They think it means government handouts!" expressed a user.
