NEW YORK, NEW YORK CITY: Internet users are abuzz with anticipation for one of the most significant events in the fashion industry. Set for the first Monday in May, the annual Met Gala promises a gathering of A-listers donning their most exquisite attire in support of the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's fundraising efforts.

The upcoming Met Gala, scheduled for Monday, May 6, will feature a distinctive theme as is customary each year. This theme is inspired by the forthcoming exhibition at the renowned Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum.

What is Met Gala's theme for this year? 

The theme for the 2024 Met Gala has been unveiled as 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion', with the official dress code designated as 'The Garden of Time'.

The fashion show will intricately explore the theme across a span of 400 years of history. Due to the delicate nature of some of the garments, a blend of artificial intelligence and computer graphics will be employed to project and recreate them, ensuring their preservation and presentation in all their historical glory.

According to Andrew Bolton, the curator of the museum, the exhibition will be structured around three primary "zones" - Land, Sea, and Sky - each paying homage to the wonders of the natural world, as per Vogue.

As per the curators, the fragility of the clothing and the need for specialized glass "coffins" for storage, rather than conventional mannequins, served as inspiration for the concept of 'sleeping beauties' embodied in the ensembles. This inspiration is distinct from the Disney princess Aurora.

As per Capital xtra, the dress code is 'The Garden in Time', and is inspired by JG Ballard's short story of the same name.
