WASHINGTON: Despite lingering worries among some in the party that the probe has not yet produced evidence of the president's misbehavior, every Republican backed the highly sensitive process on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, as the House launched the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, according to the Associated Press.

By voting along party lines on a vote of 221-212, the entire House Republican conference was recorded as supporting an impeachment process that could lead to the ultimate punishment for a president—punishment for what the Constitution refers to as "high crimes and misdemeanors" and which could result in removal from office if found guilty in a Senate trial.

Joe Biden questions inquiry against him

In uncommon remarks on the impeachment attempt, Joe Biden questioned the House Republicans' motives for looking into him and his family.

“Instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies. Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts," the president said.

Granting permission for the lengthy probe guarantees that the impeachment process would last far into 2024 when Biden is expected to compete for reelection and face former president Donald Trump, who was impeached thrice while in the White House.

In keeping with his larger demands for revenge and retaliation against his political rivals, Trump has reportedly urged his GOP friends in Congress to expedite the process of impeaching Biden.

The decision to conduct a vote was made in response to mounting pressure on Speaker Mike Johnson and his staff to demonstrate progress in the almost year-long investigation into the financial activities of Biden's family members.

Even while their inquiry brought up ethical issues, there reportedly isn't any proof that Biden took bribes or engaged in unethical behavior while serving as vice president or in his former position.

Internet slams House Republicans for approving Biden impeachment inquiry

Several internet users reacted to the decision taken by the House. One social media user wrote, "They are shouting guilty, then search for evidence. What a bunch of clowns."

Another commented, "Republicans suddenly develop a keen interest in impeachment inquiries as they rally behind the investigation into President Biden."

Another person wrote, "There goes any chance they had at winning seats in 2024," while one commented, "Another waste of time and just like with Trump there will never be a conviction in the Senate, so it's just a paper tiger."

A person added, "They still haven’t even come up with a single thing to impeach him for."
