NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Whoopi Goldberg criticized Republicans for probing Joe Biden’s use of an autopen. She demanded that Republicans end the investigation into Biden, who is no longer in office.

The controversy arose after Committee Chair James Comer asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to examine whether Biden’s executive actions were properly authorized during his presidency. President Donald Trump also asked Bondi to investigate Biden’s cognitive fitness while in office, as well as his use of the autopen.

Whoopi Goldberg made an ironic statement during a recent episode of 'The View.' While discussing the recent Republican investigation into Joe Biden’s autopen use, Goldberg said, “It's kind of crazy.”

She then clarified which investigations she would actually support: “You know, I kind of agree with him. Instead of investigating a man who is no longer in office, I would like y’all to find out why the US military struck vessels without verifying who was in them. Yeah, I want the government to be held accountable.”

Goldberg added, “We need to figure out what’s going on because it’s about to be the longest government shutdown in history. SNAP benefits are about to run out, and soybean farmers are in financial crisis.”

She also highlighted other unresolved issues, saying, “And of course, there are the unreleased Epstein files. Yes.”

This isn’t the first time Goldberg has expressed support for Biden. In a previous episode of 'The View' several months ago, Goldberg scolded co-host Alyssa Griffin for claiming that Biden lied about plans to pardon his son, Hunter Biden.

Griffin said, “I take issue with lying about it. I wanted to ask [Biden] here when he came on ‘The View,’ but the thought was he said so many times he wasn’t going to pardon him. That, to me, is lying to the public. I felt bad for Karine Jean-Pierre; she had to say he wasn’t going to pardon him. That’s why they don’t trust Washington or politicians and I know a lot of us like Joe Biden, but I find it disappointing and bad for our institutions.”

Goldberg responded, “I respect it as a parent. I understand why he would do it, but I wanted to understand why lie about it for so long. I would stop calling it a lie. Why repeatedly saying you’re not not going to, and you do? The half of the country that doesn’t support Biden and doesn’t get to have phone calls and they’re looking at a system that only benefits the people who are in power. What precedent does that set?"

House Committee’s investigation into Joe Biden’s use of the autopen

Trump and other Republicans have cast doubt on the legitimacy of Biden’s use of an autopen, claiming that Biden did not understand what he was authorizing. The allegation has been disputed by Democrats and allies of the former president.

In a letter prepared by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s majority staff on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, lawmakers asserted that some executive actions Biden signed using an autopen, including his pardons, were "illegitimate," arguing that he was suffering from mental decline while in office and may have been unaware of their contents.

The report stated, “Void all executive actions signed by the autopen without proper, corresponding, contemporaneous, written approval traceable to the president’s own consent.”

The 100-page document also accused the Biden administration and his allies of hiding his alleged cognitive decline from the American public.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said on X, “My team has already initiated a review of the Biden administration’s reported use of autopen for pardons. @RepJamesComer’s new information is extremely helpful, and his leadership on this issue is invaluable. We’ll continue working with @GOPoversight to deliver accountability for the American people.”

In response to the accusations, a spokesperson for Biden said the House Oversight Committee’s “investigation into baseless claims has confirmed what has been clear from the start: President Biden made the decisions of his presidency. There was no conspiracy, no cover-up, and no wrongdoing. Congressional Republicans should stop focusing on political retribution and instead work to end the government shutdown."
