Why Adam Sandler made an unexpected call to Nantucket police after Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Comedian and actor Adam Sandler's love for basketball continued to shine even after his role in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding, as he made time for pickup games during the busy holiday weekend.
Less than 48 hours later, he called the Nantucket Police Department's non-emergency line to ask where he could find a pickup basketball game. Sandler's recent outings came as his long-standing friendships with both Swift and Kelce drew renewed attention following the star-studded ceremony.
Adam Sandler joins pickup basketball game in Nantucket
Hours after the wedding, Sandler stepped out to play pickup basketball on outdoor courts despite the ongoing heat wave.
After the ceremony, the 59-year-old actor traveled to his home state of New Hampshire for the Fourth of July holiday before heading to Nantucket, Massachusetts, on Sunday.
According to Nantucket Current, he called the Nantucket Police Department's non-emergency line after arriving on the island to ask where he could find a pickup basketball game.
Public safety dispatcher Chris Reynolds recalled the conversation, saying, “Sandler said, ‘Hey, I’m here on your island and I like to play basketball. Can you tell me where there’s a basketball court I could play on?’”
Reynolds directed the actor to the Backus Lane court off Surfside Road, where he joined a game with local players. Andrew Kesler, who was playing at the time, told the outlet that Sandler arrived and asked if he could join the game.
“Adam Sandler rolled in a car and started playing pick ups with the boys,” Kesler said, adding, “He’s like ‘guys let me stretch I’m going to hop in.’” Kesler also shared his assessment of Sandler's game, saying, “Great passing and playmaking, decent lay-ups, hesitated to shoot the ball.”
Adam Sandler praises Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift
Sandler's connection with Kelce began while working together on the 2025 Netflix comedy Happy Gilmore 2, in which the Kansas City Chiefs tight end made a cameo appearance. Kelce later reflected on the experience during a January 2025 interview on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show.
“Working with Happy Gilmore himself, the Sandman and Happy Productions, it was off the chain,” Kelce said, adding that he “is every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen, and that was a dream come true. That was awesome.”
Nearly a year later, he officiated Swift and Kelce's wedding at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3, leading the couple through their vows in front of family and friends.
Around the July 2025 release of 'Happy Gilmore 2,' he praised Kelce during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “Travis is such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell,” he said, adding, “He’s like the guys I grew up with. When I was with Travis, it reminded me of my buddies in high school and just being able to laugh and say the things you want to say.”
He also described Kelce as “a great actor and a great human” as well as “a stud.” In the same interview, he spoke warmly about Swift, recalling that she had shared a sweet moment with him and his daughters, Sadie and Sunny, at the Los Angeles premiere of her Eras Tour film in 2023.
Sandler said, “Taylor is incredible, Taylor is so damn nice to my family and has always been. My kids have met Taylor a bunch of times over the years, and she’s ridiculously nice to them and warm.”
