NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene faced backlash on X (formerly Twitter) as she called on the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to focus more on the borders of the United States rather than those of Ukraine.

The CIA is well known to be the principal foreign intelligence and counterintelligence agency of the US government. According to their website, "The CIA is a US government agency that provides objective intelligence on foreign countries and global issues to the president, the National Security Council, and other policymakers to help them make national security decisions."

Ukraine, a NATO member country that has been facing a Russian invasion over the last two years, is thus a legitimate concern for the CIA.

Taking to the social media platform on February 26, Greene shared the screengrab of an article published by The New York Times on the same day, whose headline read, "The Spy War: How the C.I.A. Secretly Helps Ukraine Fight Putin."

Written by Adam Entous and Michael Schwirtz, it dealt with how the United States "nurtured a secret intelligence partnership with Ukraine that is now critical for both countries in countering Russia."

"I wish the CIA cared about our own border security like they care about Ukraine’s," wrote Greene in her post.

"I will not vote to fund the CIA’s war with Russia and the rest of my Republican colleagues should do the same. The US Congress needs to focus and fix our own nation’s problems!" she added.

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's post

Netizens were quick to voice their disapproval and disappointment with the congresswoman, as the following tweets reveal.

"Marge doesn’t know what the CIA does. Anyone shocked? 🙄" wrote a user, as another echoed, "Sad that a member of congress doesn't know the role of the CIA."

"Never in my life did I imagine we would have an elected official, sitting in congress that would make the statement…"I will not vote to fund the CIA’s war with Russia" Did you take an oath to office? Did you make it to America or Russia? #GOPtheRussianPartyofTraitors" stated a third.

"Marge is taking this story worse than Putin did," jibed a fourth.

"Tell me you don't know how it works without telling me you don't know how it works," mocked a fifth.
