NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene earned the ire of netizens as taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to call for action against illegal immigrants in her home state of Georgia.

In her post, Greene mentioned Laken Riley, the 22-year-old University of Georgia student who was allegedly kidnapped and murdered on campus by Venezuelan national and illegal immigrant Jose Antonio Ibarra in late February.

Greene has been vocal about the death in her alma mater since the incident came to light on February 22, emphasizing the threats faced by Americans as a result of the border crisis.

On February 27, the US representative posted on her personal X account, "As an alumni from the University of Georgia, I loved my years spent in Athens, Georgia but now Athens acts as a sanctuary for dangerous illegal aliens and students are not safe."

"While yes the Biden admin is at fault for the national security crisis created by Democrat open border policies and enabled by Mayorkas, but pointing fingers at the Biden admin is not enough," she continued.

"The Republican controlled state of Georgia must take action and crackdown on rogue cities and counties that are providing sanctuary for illegals."

She concluded by stating, "Laken Riley should be alive and well today and Georgians should not be living in fear wondering who is next!"

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Netizens slammed MTG and the House Republicans for their role in allowing the border crisis to get prolonged, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"Republicans are to blame for all of this too," wrote a user. "The GOP has had the power to stop funding a government that we know is leaving our border defenseless. Yet after a year the government remains open. Either close the border or close the government. Those are the only options left."

"Do you do anything besides place blame & point fingers. Congress, the Congress you’re a member of has done absolutely nothing besides write letters, post on social media, and huff & puff. What are you doing now besides campaigning for other people & posting on social media because Congress is on another break. Y’all have a 16% approval rating & you’re taking laps as if y’all have fucking done anything of value. Clown," vented a second.

"Also — Impeaching Mayorkas won’t “save” more Laken Riley’s. Passing the Senate border bill (HR2 on steroids) CAN. You are using her as a means to end and it needs to stop," slammed another.

"STOP trying wordsmith your way BACK into talking about Laken Riley. Stop using her death as your own personal political weapon. Using her death to distract from the fact that you chose impeaching Mayorkas over voting for restrictive immigration/ border bill in history is gross," the user later tweeted.

A fourth user mocked, "Too bad you don’t represent the state and could use your job to fix things…. Oh wait…."

"If it was really an issue, wouldn’t you pass the bipartisan immigration bill? Yeah … no … you are just liar," jibed a fifth.
