NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Laura Ingraham of Fox News criticized CNN on April 26, accusing the network of making nasty jabs at Donald Trump regarding the absence of his family members from his Manhattan hush money trial over the initial four days of proceedings.

Ingraham suggested that CNN's remarks reflected a nervousness within the media about the trial potentially leaning in Trump's favor.

“The lawfare being waged against Trump seems to be totally backfiring,” Ingraham said.

She added, “And, so, disappointed commentators who kind of bet the farm on this, are just left sputtering. Even, and this was really great this morning, offering nasty jabs after Trump’s sweet birthday greetings to Melania.”

Ingraham proceeded to play a recording of CNN's John Berman noting Melania's absence from the trial on April 26.

In the clip, Berman was seen saying, "One thing I want to point out, the first thing he did was wish his wife, Melania, a happy birthday, and said he wished he could be with her. She could be ther."

He added, "Any number of his family members could be there at this trial at any point. They’ve all chosen not to be at this trial."

Ingraham then dedicated a moment to ridicule Berman.

“‘They’ve chosen not to be.’ Really, John? Really?” Ingraham exclaimed. “That’s, that’s as good as you could do? It’s bad enough for Trump to waste his time in a sham proceeding, why on earth would he want to punish his family, punish his wife on her birthday? ‘Oh, come sit at the trial. Happy birthday.’ How ridiculous.”

In the beginning of the episode, Ingraham expressed amusement at seeing Anderson Cooper's discomfort when one of his guests "spoke the truth about the case."

Attorney Adam Kauffman noted that Trump's legal team was "taking the wind out of the prosecution's sails" by demonstrating a relationship that was unrelated to any quid pro quo.
