Zendaya may skip 2026 Met Gala as ‘Dune,’ ‘Spider-Man’ releases stack up
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK : Actress Zendaya may miss the 2026 Met Gala, scheduled for Monday, May 4, as a demanding year of major projects and high-profile productions has left little room for additional public appearances.
She attended last year’s Met Gala in an all-white Louis Vuitton suit, while her partner, actor Tom Holland, has yet to appear at the event. Zendaya was also recently photographed in California supporting him at his Bero Padel Classic event and was later seen shooting a campaign for 'On' in New York City on Thursday.
Zendaya may skip 2026 Met Gala as busy film and TV schedule builds
According to Elle, Zendaya is stepping back from the spotlight following consecutive press tours for her recent projects, 'The Drama' and 'Euphoria' season three, with the update arriving just days before the annual fashion event during an already demanding year for the Emmy winner.
'The Drama,' produced by A24 and co-starring Robert Pattinson, premiered on April 3, followed by the long-awaited third season of the HBO original series on April 12. Her upcoming slate remains equally packed, including filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s 'The Odyssey' on July 17, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' on July 31, and the third installment of Dune on December 18.
Zendaya has attended the Met Gala seven times since her debut in 2015 and served as co-chair in 2024. Her possible absence this year suggests fans are also unlikely to see her alongside Holland ahead of their upcoming Spider-Man film.
While the couple has not publicly confirmed their marital status, her longtime stylist Law Roach stated in March at the Actor Awards that they had already married. Zendaya has previously spoken about her relationship during an appearance on 'Modern Love' podcast.
She said, “I think sometimes, at least in my personal experience, I found that— sometimes people can get nervous around people, ‘but there's a certain feeling that I was able to experience when I knew that this is my person, because I didn't.”
Zendaya continued, “I don't feel nervous, I feel really peaceful and I feel really calm. And feel like, ‘Oh, I actually feel more nervous when I'm away from you than when I'm with you.’ And that's when I was like, ‘Ah, that's a good sign, that’s me listening to intuition.’”
Zendaya reflects on childhood fashion and personal style evolution
In a recent Vogue interview with stylist Law Roach, she reflected on her early approach to fashion, recalling, “Something my parents allowed me to do when I was a kid was express myself through my clothes, Once I was old enough to kind of decide what I wanted to wear, they kind of just let me dress myself, which was cool.”
She further said, “So I wasn’t that kid who had the perfect matching outfit going to school—I kind of just picked whatever I wanted, starting in kindergarten, first grade. The Cheetah Girls was a major thing, so I wore a lot of leopard print—that’s not cheetah print, but I didn’t know the difference.”
Zendaya emphasized, “I love when I see kids and they’re in a princess dress and rain boots—they’re just experimenting with clothes, and they are already figuring out their little personalities. I probably wore some very interesting combinations as an elementary schooler, but I think it was more about what made me feel confident and whatever color I was into, or my fixation at the time."
She added, “It was nice, because it was before you really have an understanding that you’re being perceived by others because of your clothes—before you feel like you’re being judged for what you wear.”
Zendaya also noted that teenagers today have far greater access to social media than she did while growing up. “I guess YouTube became a thing with me, and there was MySpace and Facebook, but it was nothing like it is now—thankfully, not all of my awkward outfits were documented, and there weren’t a bunch of tutorials or links to help me or decide who I was,” she said.
