BRENHAM, TEXAS: In a tragic turn of events Clenard Parker, 42, crashed an 18-wheeler into a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) office in Brenham resulting in the loss of one life and leaving thirteen others injured on Friday, April 12. 

According to statements from the department, law enforcement agencies, led by Texas DPS Sgt Justin Reese, had been tracking the stolen truck since it was reported missing.

The day before, Parker, the suspect, had visited the DPS Brenham office, where he was denied renewal of his commercial driver's license.

Sgt Reese explained that after law enforcement spotted the stolen truck, they made attempts to stop the driver.

Despite attempts to stop him, Parker defied law enforcement's efforts, executing a U-turn before crashing through the office's front entrance. However, law enforcement successfully apprehended Parker, preventing further harm as he attempted to drive through the building a second time.

Authorities pledge accountability in wake of DPS office tragedy

Following the incident, one fatality was reported, while two individuals sustained serious injuries and three others required hospitalization before being released. Additionally, eight additional victims received treatment at the scene.

Texas DPS Regional Director Gerald Brown expressed condolences, calling it a "tragic day" adding, "My heart and prayers go out to the family members of those who are injured."



 

According to records from the Washington County Jail, Parker now faces serious charges, including unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest causing serious bodily injury. Reports from KHOU indicate that the suspect has a history of prior arrests.

Responding to the tragedy, Texas State Senator Lois Kolkhorst pledged full prosecution of Parker, condemning the act as "intentional violence against innocent citizens and civil servants who work in this facility."

"As I stated in the press conference, we will prosecute this coward to the fullest extent of the law. This shameful and murderous act will not be tolerated in my hometown or our state. Please join me in praying for the deceased, the injured victims and all families impacted," the Senator added.
