RICHMOND, VIRGINIA: A staffer for Virginia’s Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Abigail Spanberger is under fire after being caught on hidden camera laughing, rolling her eyes, and taking swipes at the late conservative figure Charlie Kirk.

Abigail Spanberger's staffer caught mocking Charlie Kirk on video

In a secretly recorded video shared by Human Events, Spanberger campaign organizer Maame Ama Deegbe is seen responding to an undercover reporter posing as a regular voter. The man brings up the tense political climate in Virginia following Charlie Kirk’s murder on September 10, which took place during an event at Utah Valley University

“Virginia’s a little bit of a hot spot for everything. Like, far right. It’s like crazy right now,” the man tells Deegbe as the two chat in a restaurant.

Deegbe replies carefully at first. “I can’t legally talk about the Charlie thing, but if you want to talk about the Charlie thing, I have all the ears for you in the world. Like I wanna hear your thoughts," she said. But her tone shifts when pressed for her own thoughts. “I would be sad if you had died. I don’t think I would, I’ll leave it there. You seem like a good person,” Deegbe says, laughing and shaking her head before adding with a smirk, “Can I say the same for Charlie? I’ll just leave that there,” followed by an eye roll.

She later claims the campaign is officially keeping its distance from the controversy. “Our stance on it [Kirk’s death] for the most part has been we denounce political violence. And we are staying very far away from it,” she adds.

Second leaked video hits Abigail Spanberger campaign

The fresh footage comes just days after Maame Ama Deegbe was caught mouthing off about her own boss in another leaked clip.

Deegbe described Abigail Spanberger as “a CIA agent, literally, which is crazy, like yeah, vote for the CIA agent, guys, like what the f**k.” She added, “I don’t know what happened. We’re in, like, the darkest timeline,” openly mocking her own candidate, who is now locked in a tight race for Virginia governor against Republican Lt Gov Winsome Earle-Sears.

In the same undercover sting, Deegbe also took a swipe at Earle-Sears, the first Black woman ever elected statewide in Virginia. According to her, Earle-Sears is a “Black woman who thinks that slavery should be brought back.”

Deegbe further bragged about her generous salary while mocking the campaign industry. She called it “a really big pyramid scheme,” before adding smugly that they pay her “really good money.”

The fallout was swift, Deegbe has since deleted her LinkedIn profile.

Abigail Spanberger faces growing campaign controversies

This latest embarrassment adds to what has already been a rough few weeks for the Abigail Spanberger campaign.

The Democratic frontrunner has refused to cut ties with Attorney General candidate Jay Jones, who has faced intense backlash for previously calling for a Republican candidate to be shot and even saying that the man’s wife should be forced to watch their children die.

During a debate earlier this month, Winsome Earle-Sears directly confronted Spanberger about her decision to stand by Jones.

“Jay Jones advocated the murder, Abigail, the murder of a man, a former speaker, as well as his children, who were 2 years and 5 years old,” Earle-Sears charged onstage. “You have little girls. Would it take him pulling the trigger? Is that what would do it? Please ask him to get out of the race. Have some courage.”

Despite the controversies, Spanberger’s campaign is still hanging on. Polls show her maintaining a narrow, single-digit lead ahead of the November 4 election.
