QUEENS, NEW YORK: New Yorkers are helping out the "hero" Queens mother who risked her life to protect her teenage daughter from an abduction.  

Last week, a GoFundMe campaign was set up to help cover Adriana Alvarez's medical costs. Alvarez sustained serious injuries while fighting off the hulking man who tried to abduct her teen daughter, Lex.

Help pours in for Adriana Alvarez 

As per New York Post, the fundraiser has received over $43,000 from over 900 donors, far surpassing its original $5,000 goal.

The 35-year-old mother was overwhelmed as she said, “Wow!, It's been just so amazing.”

Parents from around the world offered Alvarez their words of support and healing on GoFundMe.

On the day of the incident in January, Alvarez heard Lex, 18, screaming and immediately knew something was wrong. Just outside their door in the hallway of their apartment building, a man had grabbed the teen and allegedly forced her down the stairs. Alvarez heard the commotion and descended the stairs, thwarting the man's plan.

Alvarez fought against George Vassiliou, Lex's alleged stalker, inside her Astoria apartment building as he pulled the girl down four flights of stairs, breaking her elbow, dislocating her shoulder, and breaking her orbital socket. A doorbell camera captured the attack on camera. The attempted kidnapping and other accusations led to the arrest of 25-year-old Vassiliou. His bail was set at $50,000.

Police sources said a bag containing rope, sleeping pills, and tampons was recovered from a rental car Vassiliou had parked right outside the building.

Internet hails Alvarez as 'super mom' 

Several social media users gushed praise on Alvarez's quick thinking that saved her daughter, with a Facebook user calling her, "Super mom." 

Another user wrote, "Good job protecting your cub." Someone else said, "Sending prayers for a full recovery." 

"Prayer up for her and the family," a user wrote. Another noted, "It's the big heart of mother." Someone else chimed in, "That's mama bear," while a user opined, "Great job!!!! But also make his name and face famous and let the people take care of it!" 

"You are a super mom.Much love," said another.
