WASHINGTON, DC: If you thought Washington politics couldn’t get any weirder, think again.

A group of cyberpunks apparently decided that Monday morning, February 24, at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was the perfect time to make a statement - by hacking a cafeteria television and blasting an AI-generated video showing President Donald Trump kissing and caressing the feet of billionaire Elon Musk.

The horrifyingly bizarre footage was first reported by Vox journalist Rachel Cohen, who witnessed the scene unfolding at HUD’s headquarters. The video came with a blaring message across the screen: “LONG LIVE THE REAL KING.”

Liberals have a good laugh over AI video while conservatives fume

Naturally, social media lit up as this AI fever dream instantly became a meme. Democrats and liberal pundits—many of whom have taken to mockingly calling Elon Musk “President Musk” to showcase his influence in Trump’s administration—loved it.

In fact, the House Financial Services Committee Democrats cheered on X (formerly Twitter) writing: “Not all heroes wear capes.”

And they weren’t the only ones finding humor in the AI rendition. Left-wingers on social media piled on with their own takes.

"That's a unique new way for the VP to show his support for the President," one quipped on X.

"Trump is going to outlaw AI now lmao," another wrote.

"This is what happens when you fire people with little notice because you don’t understand what they do," someone else offered.

"Hopefully other people figure out how to put this on TVs around the government," another chimed in.

While liberals were busy laughing, conservatives saw the video as further proof that government agencies are riddled with deep-state nonsense.

"All this does is prove that these federal jobs are in fact useless and the Trump administration should slash even more," one remarked.

"More proof that most federal employees have no purpose or productivity. Thanks for reminding us why we don't care about them getting fired," another added.

"This is why a majority of Americans are cheering on them losing their jobs. You're proving how useless you truly are to society. I hope he guts the federal government by 85% when it's said and done," read a comment.

"If this isn't evidence that these agencies have been wholly politicized and need to be cleaned out, then I don't know what is," yet another noted.

Elon Musk’s growing power in the White House

Elon Musk, who now literally runs a government cost-cutting task force, has been given unprecedented control over the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—the team currently auditing HUD and other agencies. And some Americans aren’t thrilled about it.

Recent polls suggest that while voters do support cutting wasteful federal spending, they’re also a little freaked out by how much power Musk, 53, has amassed in the executive branch.

Still, Musk and his DOGE team have already made headlines by claiming they found $1.9 billion in “misplaced” HUD funds from the Biden administration, plus canceling at least $4 million in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) contracts.

The SpaceX and Tesla boss was quick to take a victory lap as he posted on social media: “It is astounding how much taxpayer money can be saved with even a small amount of effort.”

And just this weekend, Musk demanded that every single federal employee submit a five-bullet-point report detailing what they accomplished the previous week, the New York Post reported.

What’s next for HUD?

As for HUD, they were not amused by the hacker stunt. “Another waste of taxpayer dollars and resources,” HUD spokeswoman Kasey Lovett said in a statement, adding, “Appropriate action will be taken for all involved.”

It’s still unclear whether a rogue HUD employee, outside hackers, or some other entity orchestrated the prank, but the footage appears to have originated from a viral X post that had been making the rounds the week before.

Regardless, HUD Secretary Scott Turner made it clear that they’re fully on board with Musk’s aggressive budget-cutting measures. “We’re working on a DOGE task force to maximize the department’s efficiency," he told reporters earlier this month.

“There is more to come. We’re going to take inventory of all of HUD’s programs and ensure every dollar that goes out the door is advancing HUD’s mission, which is to provide quality, affordable homes," Turner added.
