WASHINGTON, DC: Lifelong Democrat Alan Dershowitz announced leaving the party without endorsing its nominee Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election, reported Fox News.

The prominent attorney and Harvard law professor decided to identify himself as an "independent," accusing many current Democratic leaders of being expressed "anti-Jewish." He also shared that he would not back any candidate ahead of the November election, potentially giving Harris a chance to secure his vote.

Alan Dershowitz was 'disgusted' by 2024 DNC

Appearing as a guest on the podcast 'Talkline with Zev Brenner,' Alan Dershowitz complained that the Chicago DNC that took place in August provided a platform to anti-Israeli speakers, as well as gave legitimacy to the anti-Israel protesters gathered outside.

"It was the most anti-Jewish, anti-Israel, anti-Zionist convention I've experienced," he said. "I was disgusted at the Democratic National Convention. Absolutely disgusted."

When host Brenner asked if he was "ready to leave the Democratic Party," Dershowitz assented, stating, "I am no longer a Democrat. I am an Independent. I'll decide who to vote for at the last minute."

"I want to see how they deal with Iran. I want to encourage the current administration to support Israel," listed the lawyer as issues that could swing his vote in favor of the Democrats.

"A lot of things pushed me in that direction," said Dershowitz of his decision. He noted Vice President Kamala Harris not presiding over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress, and the increasing importance of progressive lawmakers such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders within the party as some of them.

Internet calls Alan Dershowitz leaving Dem 'good riddance'

Netizens on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) trolled Alan Dershowitz while reacting to his announcement of leaving the Democratic Party. They claimed that he was a member in name only, and had been helping Donald Trump over the years. The following tweets demonstrate the prevalent take.

"The Democratic Party is disgusted w him. He left a long time ago, good riddance," wrote a person.

"The guy who has been constantly trying to help Trump avoid facing justice is leaving the Democratic Party? It sounds like he is as confused as Trump if he thought he was still a Democrat," stated another.

"I didn't even know he was a Democrat," jibed a third.

"Don’t let the door hit you," quipped a fourth.

"Not surprising. Dersh has been a DINO for years now," echoed a fifth.

"Leaving is the best thing he can do for the Democratic Party," shared yet another.
