Joe Biden rebukes Benjamin Netanyahu for not doing enough to secure safe release of Hamas hostages
WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden called out Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a moment of rare rebuke for not doing enough to secure the release of Hamas hostages, on Monday, September 2, reported Mediaite.
The remark comes in light of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) discovering the bodies of 6 hostages held by Hamas over the weekend, causing national outrage in Israel.
According to the BBC, Hamas had taken 251 hostages and killed 1,200 people during their attack on October 7, 2023. It is unclear how many hostages are alive at present.
In retaliation, Israel launched an all-out military assault on Gaza, which has since resulted in the death of 40,530 Palestinians.
Joe Biden criticizes Benjamin Netanyahu
President Joe Biden returned to the White House from a vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Monday, September 2. Upon his return, Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason asked the incumbent if he felt Netanyahu was doing enough to secure a deal with Hamas for the release of the hostages still held by Hamas.

“Do you think he’s doing enough?” asked Mason, to which Biden curtly replied, "No."
According to a pool report, Biden also shared that he spoke to the family of American-Israeli citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, who was among the six hostages discovered dead.
His parents, Jon Polin and Rachel Goldberg-Polin, have been very vocal in pushing for a deal for the hostages' safe return, and even gave an emotional address on stage at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in August.
Protests in Israel against Benjamin Netanyahu's government
The discovery of more deceased hostages has reportedly caused national outrage in Israel, with thousands of protesters taking to the streets in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other cities.
Protesters flooded the streets of Israeli cities on Sunday, demanding that the government immediately accept a deal for the release of hostages held in Gaza. The IDF shared that the 6 bodies were discovered on Saturday, August 31, in an underground tunnel in the Rafah area of southern Gaza and that they were killed shortly before the troops reached them.
This has triggered the protests as Israeli citizens accused Netanyahu and his government of failing to save hostages.
Internet slams Benjamin Netanyahu after death of 6 hostages
Enraged users on the internet took to the comments section of the Mediaite article and blamed Benjamin Netanyahu for being more focused on the attack in Gaza rather than saving hostages.
"Palestinians want a deal. Hamas doesn't. Israelis want a deal. Netanyahu doesn't. Sounds like the problem here is Hamas and Netanyahu," wrote one social media user.
"Israelis spent the weekend protesting Bibi. Today, they are on a general strike. So, MAGA, you can attack Biden and Harris all you want, but many Israelis agree that Bibi is a huge part of the problem here," shared another.
"Dead hostages are worth more to Bibi than live ones are," stated one person.
"The people of Israel are mighty mad at Bibi and with good reason. Like Trump, Bibi has put himself above his own nation," expressed another.
"Netanyahu, like Trump, is more concerned with avoiding jail," one individual wrote.
