MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Former president Donald Trump delivered a strong message to Hamas during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Thursday, July 18, vowing that the terrorist group would pay “a very big price” if the hostages were not released.

The families of Israeli hostages are concerned that the political turmoil in the United States might divert attention from their missing relatives. They are eagerly awaiting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement of a potential agreement to bring them back home when he addresses Congress on Wednesday, according to the New York Post.

At the 2024 Republican National Convention, the 78-year-old MAGA strongman asserted that the October 7 attack on Israel wouldn’t have happened under his administration and demanded the return of hostages before he assumed office, per The Jerusalem Post.

What did Donald Trump say about freeing hostages during his remarks at RNC?

“We want our hostages back and they better be back before I assume office, or you will be paying a very big price,” the 2024 GOP presidential candidate declared.

It's unclear whether the ex-POTUS was specifically referring to the American-Israeli hostages being held captive by terrorists or referring to all the remaining hostages who are still in captivity following the October 7 massacre.

However, it seems more likely that he was talking about the American hostages, as this was a recurring theme throughout the convention.

The US, Qatar, and Egypt-led cease-fire talks, according to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, are "inside the 10-yard line and driving toward the goal line" of an agreement that would include the release of the hostages.

“There remains some issues that need to be resolved, that need to be negotiated,” Blinken mentioned at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado. “We’re in the midst of doing exactly that.”

Internet skewers Donald Trump for his ultimatum to Hamas on releasing October 7 hostages

People online mocked the 45th President of the United States for declaring that Hamas will be "paying a very big price" if hostages aren't returned by the time he takes office.

One person remarked, "So what specifically is he proposing. Boots on the ground which could spark a larger conflict."

Another person said, "And what happens if this doesn’t happen? Is Trump just going to blow them all away? Is he going to with hold their food? Is he going to give them a 100% tariff? I’d sure like to know the plan of what he plans to do when they call his bluff."

Another person claimed, "Trumps says a lot of things, then fails to back them up...Trump threatens to retaliate with '1,000 times greater' force against any Iran attack. Iran shot missiles into our base and 50 Purple Hearts were awarded to our brave soldiers. What did Trump do afterwards? NOTHING. A week after the attack, Trump was asked about the soldiers' injuries at a press conference, and he said he "heard they had headaches" and "I can report it is not very serious.""

One person wrote, "He's an "In the moment" kind of guy. Whatever makes him sound good."

Another person quipped, "More promises that will be broken . By the Stable Genius ."

One commented, "Instant gratification for his followers with no plan just hopes and dreams."
