Alanis Morissette, 52, comes out as pansexual after 16 years of marriage
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Alanis Morissette, 52, has publicly identified as pansexual during a Tuesday, November 3, appearance on the ‘Handsome’ podcast. She shared her sexuality after co-host Fortune Feimster jokingly asked whether her heartbreak with men had ever made her want to be a lesbian.

Alanis Morissette confirms she is pansexual during podcast appearance
Toward the end of the episode, Feimster brought up the heartbreak the ‘Jagged Little Pill’ musician had experienced in relationships with men.
“I’m sorry for the men that hurt you, but I’m not sorry for the songs that came from it. Those are pretty amazing,” Feimster told the singer before jokingly asking, “Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?”
The conversation then turned toward Morissette’s sexuality when Notaro asked, “Wait, you’re not really pansexual, are you?” The singer responded directly, confirming, “I am.” He subsequently joked that Morissette should have started her appearance on the podcast by revealing her sexuality.

Turning to Feimster, she said, “How did I not know this? Did you know this? You’re supposed to come into the ‘Handsome’ podcast leading with, ‘I’m pansexual.’” Morissette responded humorously, "You know, I like to leave it for the epilogue, I like to confuse people on the way out. Is it confusing?”
Pansexuality refers to romantic, emotional and/or sexual attraction to people regardless of their gender identity. The prefix “pan-” means “all,” and the term is often confused with bisexuality, although the two are not interchangeable.
Bisexuality refers to attraction to more than one gender, but not necessarily all genders. Pansexuality, meanwhile, falls under what Sarah Kate Ellis, CEO of LGBTQ advocacy organization GLAAD, describes as the “bisexuality umbrella.”
Alanis Morissette previously opened up about her sexuality
Morissette has previously discussed her sexuality in interviews over the years. In 2008, the musician spoke about encounters she had with women during her youth while appearing on ‘The Howard Stern Show’.
Shortly after the appearance, she elaborated on her comments in an interview with The Advocate. Asked to explain the “lesbian experimentation” she had discussed during Stern’s show, Morissette spoke positively about exploring one's sexuality.
“What can I tell you about it? I think it’s a beautiful rite of passage for everyone to play with their sexuality at some point, so I did exactly that. And it was great!” she told the publication.

The singer has been married to Mario “Souleye” Treadway since 2010, and they share three children, Ever, 14, Onyx, 9, and Winter, 6. Meanwhile, Morissette is currently performing her residency show, ‘Butterfly with a Machete: A Rock Traumedy’, at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
The residency began on November 5, with its final performance scheduled for November 11.
