FORT WORTH, TEXAS: Aleah Wallace shot and killed a 14-year-old boy, Devin Baker, who was trying to break into her rental home where she lived with her four daughters. Recently, Wallace opened about what happened, exclusively with FOX 4’s Shaun Rabb.

Wallace allegedly shot Baker for trying to break into their home. She now faces eviction and a grand jury investigation, according to the outlet.

Wallace recalls incident

According to Fox 4, Wallace spoke about multiple break-ins at her rented duplex, which prompted her to purchase a gun for safety. The previous burglaries happened when the house was unoccupied, but when the intruder tried to break in while the woman and her daughters were inside, things got heated.

“I was cleaning my living room … and I heard my window start going back up,” Wallace recalled. “I just shot.”

Baker, who was allegedly attempting to enter through Walace’s eight-year-old daughter’s bedroom window on the morning of December 14, later died from his injuries, according to the outlet.

“It’s bothering me that he was a kid,” Wallace told the outlet. Police had already responded to Wallace’s home earlier that night after a 911 call reporting an attempted break-in, according to the outlet.

Wallace now faces eviction from the rented house. "I feel like I’m back at square one,” she lamented, having lived there for six years.

A grand jury will hear the case. Wallace maintains her integrity and emphasises her duty as a mother in spite of the situation.

“I was just protecting my daughters. I’m devastated that he was 14. I hate that. I literally do. And I’m so sorry. But at that point, I had to think about my babies,” the mother of four said.

What did Devin Baker's parents say?

The parents of the 14-year-old boy want answers after this incident outside south Fort Worth duplex. Devin Baker was an eighth-grade student at Rosemont Middle School. His family also lives in the Peppertree Acres Apartments. Paramedics responded and pronounced Baker dead at the scene.

Latoiya Landers, Devin’s mother, told the Star-Telegram he was a fun-loving boy who had dreams of starting a clothing line with art he’d created. She stated he was eager to join the basketball team and had good marks in school. He’d just recently had his physical done.

"He used to tell me, ‘Mamma, watch. I’m going to make something of myself'," Landers said.

“I told him, ‘Yes you are, but you’re going to stay in school, too'."

Martial arts teacher and youth mentor Durwyn Lamb reported that two weeks ago at Rosemont Middle School, he had a conversation with a group of students, Devin among them.

“I could tell he was a pretty good kid, really decent kid, just making some immature and young choices from the lack of being guided or being misguided,” Lamb told the Star-Telegram.
