Alec Baldwin hints at possible retirement from Hollywood: 'I want to stay home with my children'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Alec Baldwin has reportedly been spending more time at home and has suggested he may be moving toward retirement from Hollywood.
The 68-year-old actor has said in recent conversations that he has repeatedly considered stepping away from acting, particularly after the tragic 2021 incident on the set of 'Rust'. He mentioned in an interview that he now prefers a quieter life focused on his children, saying he wants to “stay home with my kids.”
His thoughts on stepping back from work are linked to the accidental shooting death of Halyna Hutchins during the 'Rust' production, when a prop gun Baldwin was handling discharged.
The incident led to legal investigations and a lengthy period of court proceedings, deeply affecting his personal and professional life.
Alec Baldwin is considering retiring from Hollywood
During an interview on The Hollywood Reporter's 'Awards Chatter' Podcast on Monday, April 13, Alec Baldwin spoke about how his life has changed in recent years and how he has been reassessing his future in Hollywood. He shared that he has been spending most of his time at home and has largely stepped back from work.
He said, “I wound up staying home a lot. I was home with my kids for three and a half years, I hardly worked at all,” followed by, “I don’t want to leave my house anymore,” the 30 Rock alum continued. “I don’t. I don’t want to work anymore. I don’t. I really don’t. I want to retire and stay home with my kids.”
On the podcast, he reflected on how difficult the past years have been for him, saying, “That was unspeakably difficult to deal with.” He added, “It impacted me in every way - financially, career-wise, my wife, my kids, my health. I was so sick. I mean, we had to finish. We gave him the movie and said, ‘You sell it and do whatever you want with it,’” he recalled.
He also revealed that he faced health issues, including orthostatic hypotension, which caused fainting episodes. “I was really sick, I had a nerve condition that you get when you take blood pressure medication, orthostatic hypotension, where you black out,” he explained.
Legal fallout and aftermath of 'Rust' shooting incident
The 2021 tragedy on the set of 'Rust' led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during filming. The incident resulted in criminal charges against Baldwin.
In July 2024, the case against him was dismissed by the court. Following this development, Baldwin went on to file a lawsuit against the prosecutors and investigators involved, alleging malicious prosecution and violations of his civil rights.
He has stated that the officials attempted to “scapegoat Baldwin for the acts and omissions of others,” arguing that there was no evidence to justify the charges brought against him.
