Taylor Swift faces boos during surprise appearance at Alan Jackson farewell concert
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE: Alan Jackson’s final concert in Nashville became a star-studded celebration of his decades-long country music career, with multiple artists coming together to honor the 67-year-old icon. The farewell show, held at Nissan Stadium under the banner ‘Last Call: One More for the Road - The Finale’, marked a major closing moment in Jackson’s touring journey.
Among the tribute segments was a virtual appearance by Taylor Swift, which drew a mixed reaction from sections of the audience during the broadcast moment.
The night also featured performances and tributes from several country stars including Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, and Carrie Underwood, all paying homage to Jackson’s legacy in country music.
Taylor Swift thanks Alan Jackson for 'support and encouragement'
Among several tributes, a video was also flashed on the screen that saw Swift saying, “It’s Taylor. I just want to say thank you for your decades of your incredible songwriting and performances and the way that means so much to us, the fans.”
The ‘Blank Space’ hitmaker then went on to mention Jackson’s song ‘Drive’ as she noted, “In that song, you paint such a picture and let us into the details of your life. I know that was an example that was so good for me to see at a young age, an artist who's really just letting fans into the details of his life.”
During her message, Swift also hailed the ‘Chattahoochee’ singer “for the ways that you have treated me and other artists and writers with just such support and encouragement over the years,” as she added, “I am so excited for you and your show, and I just appreciate you so much.”
However, not everyone seemed pleased with her virtual presence as she was reportedly met with boos from parts of the audience during the segment.
Alan Jackson shares reason behind choosing Nashville as final show concert place
This came after Jackson shared that he wanted to “end it all where it all started for me”, years after revealing his Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, which affects mobility and balance.
The ‘Remember When’ singer told PEOPLE last year, “It's been a long road... and it's taken me places I never imagined. But I can't think of a better place to put on a big show and give the fans a finale than in Nashville and include so many special friends.”
“We just felt like we had to end it all where it all started for me, and that’s in Nashville — Music City — where country music lives,” he added.
Alan Jackson revealed his disease is not fatal
In 2021, when Jackson revealed that he has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, he explained, “I don't want them to think I'm drunk on stage because I'm having problems with mobility and balance. I have this neuropathy, a neurological disease I inherited from my daddy."
"I've been reluctant to talk about this publicly, but it's been a while, and it's starting to affect my performance on stage a little bit where I don't feel comfortable. I just want people to know that's why I look like I do, if they're wondering. It's not going to kill me, it's not deadly… It's not fatal — it's just going to disable me eventually," he asserted at the time.
