STARK, NEW HAMPSHIRE: The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Alex Jackson, a 34-year-old man from Maine, has found some closure as state police recently discovered his remains almost a year after his disappearance.
The discovery comes alongside the arrest of a suspect believed to be connected to his death.
Insights into Alex Jackson's disappearance
Jackson's family reported him missing on May 14, 2023, after not hearing from him since May 12, 2023.
His unexpected disappearance was deemed highly unusual by family members, raising concerns for his safety and well-being, as they described it as "atypical behavior for him."
Jackson was last seen in Leeds, Maine, towing an unloaded gooseneck trailer. His disappearance took a bewildering turn when his phone was switched off around 4:30 pm on the day he vanished, and his dog was subsequently found in North Yarmouth, wearing a different collar, per True Crime.
Circumstantial evidence points to Joseph Chute's involvement
For ten months, multiple local law enforcement agencies diligently pursued leads, which ultimately implicated 30-year-old Joseph Chute as the main suspect in Jackson's disappearance.
Chute was apprehended on March 29 and charged with murder. He is currently detained without the option of bail at the Androscoggin County Jail.
Despite attempts by Verne Paradise, the lawyer representing Chute, to have the charge dropped due to the absence of Jackson's body, the legal proceedings continued, fueled by circumstantial evidence suggesting the suspect's involvement.
Following the subsequent discovery of the victim's body, lawyer Paradise maintained his stance that his client was innocent.
Multi-collaborative agencies' efforts lead to the discovery of Alex Jackson's remains
In a significant breakthrough, state police, in collaboration with several agencies including the Windham Police Department, Maine Warden Service, New Hampshire State Police, and New Hampshire Fish and Wildlife Department, conducted a search in Stark, New Hampshire.
On Friday, April 19, their efforts yielded results as they found Jackson's remains.
Law enforcement has opted not to disclose the cause and manner of Jackson's death, leaving unanswered questions regarding the circumstances surrounding his demise.
