FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA: A JetBlue passenger's ill-advised "bomb" joke has landed him in hot water on his 27th birthday.

Mack Bjorn, of Reno, Nevada was reportedly about to board a JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco, when he made a poorly-timed joke that the "TSA had missed a bomb in his bag."

This comment, as reported by WPLG, was not well-received and led to his arrest.

When a flight attendant questioned Bjorn about his inappropriate remark, he reportedly persisted and "reaffirmed that the TSA missed the bomb in his bag," as stated in a police report.

After being removed from the flight, authorities attempted to interview the suspect. However, he declined and requested legal representation.

According to the arrest records, no bomb was discovered.

What are the charges against the JetBlue passenger?

A judge in Broward County found sufficient grounds to charge him with the second-degree felony of making a false report about a bomb, arson, or weapon of mass destruction.

On Tuesday, Bjorn submitted a written plea of not guilty and is no longer held in custody at the Broward County jail.

In a statement released by PEOPLE on Wednesday, February 21, Bjorn's attorney, George Reyes, described his client as "a good person and a newlywed who has just returned from a cruise," adding that he has no previous criminal record.

"We acknowledge the severity of the charges under Florida Statute 790.164 against my client and emphasize our commitment to a fair legal process," the statement added.

"My client regrets the incident, which allegedly stemmed from a joke with no intent to cause fear or harm. We stress that there was no plan to act on the statement, highlighting a moment of very poor judgment rather than malice," said Reyes.

"We are fully cooperating with authorities to clarify the context and intent of the remark," Reyes further shared. "Our goal is to resolve this matter by demonstrating the lack of any criminal intent behind the comment."

"We request public patience and understanding as we proceed, respecting the principles of justice and the presumption of innocence," Reyes stated.

Internet abuzz over JetBlue passenger's troublesome 'joke'

Social media users swiftly responded to Bjorn's ill-advised joke.

A Facebook user hilariously reacted, "That's probably among one of the stupidest and fastest ways to get on a "no-fly list". His birthday gift to himself was an all-expense paid trip to jail."

A second person stated, "He'll have plenty of time behind bars to think of some new jokes."

"As Bugs Bunny would say…. what a buffoon!!!" said another.

One person noted, "27 going on 12."

Another trolled the passenger, "Probably got dropped on his head when he was a baby."

"I feel no sympathy or empathy for that much stupid," added another.
