MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: During a fiery segment on the latest episode of 'The View,' co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin stirred up controversy with a comment on the ultra-wealthy, noting tech billionaire Elon Musk has lost the most money after Donald Trump's proposed tariffs.

As the co-hosts debated the economic consequences of Trump’s tariff policies during the 'Hot Topic' segment, Farah Griffin, a former White House press secretary, dropped her defense that sparked instant backlash from the panel.

Farah Griffin equates rich and poor struggles using Elon Musk as example

“I’m gonna be honest though, the poor and the rich alike are losing money,” she said.

To drive her point home, Farah Griffin invoked the name of the world’s richest man - Elon Musk.

“Elon Musk might’ve lost more money than anyone else on the planet,” she continued.

The claim, which referenced well-documented dips in Musk’s net worth due to stock fluctuations and business controversies, caused visible tension at the table, as per Daily Express US.

Reports from CNBC said that The Tesla CEO lost over $30 billion after Trump announced his tariffs.

The response from the panel was swift and unified. Several of Farah Griffin’s co-hosts clapped back in rare harmony, questioning the framing of her argument.

“Who also started with the most money?” they asked, cutting through the notion that the struggles of the rich and poor were somehow equal.

Farah Griffin tried to clarify her perspective, adding, “But that’s the point. He’s even hurting his wealthy friends.”

“Elon Musk, who I don’t agree with on much of anything, I don’t know why he’s overseeing DOGE, I’d actually love to hear from him on tariffs,” Griffin said, letting the audience know where she stands on Trump’s tariff policies.

She added, “He has experience running a business, he employs 100,000 people in this country, he understands supply chains. This would be a good time for him to chime in.”

Viewers drag Alyssa Farah Griffin for defending Elon Musk

While the show co-hosts held their own reactions, online viewers quickly took to social media to criticize what many perceived as tone-deaf commentary.

One viewer expressed, "I’m sick of Alyssa and Sarah giving Republicans credit . THEY PUT US INTO THIS MESS!!!!!!"

Another viewer shared, "Yes, Alyssa. The poor and the rich are both losing money. However, Elon won’t feel it. The person who’s just trying to save some money for retirement will."

One viewer pointed out, "No Alyssa, you are wrong. It’s not the same. I will be eating forkfuls of dirt, while Musk and Trump eat caviar and sip champagne. We’re not even close. #TheView."

A follower observed, "Gurl the poor n the rich but who not gonna eat?#theview."

One comment stated, "I am not worried about wealthy folks losing money. I am worried about the everyday person losing money. #TheView."

Another comment read, "It aint about wealthy people losing their money, it's about average Americans losing their money. I'm FAR from rich. Barely middle class, but i have a 401K through my job. A 401k which relies on Stock Market stability. I own no other stocks outside of my 401K."

"Do middle and working class people understand that their retirement accounts are being destroyed? Rich people may be freaking out but they can weather this. Regular people will lose everything," explained an individual.
