OKMULGEE COUNTY, OKLAHOMA: Amy Leann Hall, a 43-year-old mother from Oklahoma, has been sentenced to serve two life sentences for each of two counts of murder on Friday, March 29, for a tragic incident in 2018.
She was found guilty of shooting all three of her teenage children while they were asleep.
While two of her children, 18-year-old Kayson Toliver and 16-year-old Kloee Toliver, were fatally shot, fortunately, her 14-year-old daughter, whose identity has not been disclosed, survived the ordeal, as the US Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Oklahoma reported
Also, District Judge Ronald A White ordered Hall to serve an extra 20-year sentence for shooting her surviving daughter in the head.
All three of Hall's sentences will be served concurrently, with no possibility of parole, as per federal sentencing guidelines.
Amy Hall pleaded guilty to two charges of murder in 2022
On November 28, 2022, Hall entered a guilty plea to two charges of murder and one charge of assault with intent to commit murder.
Prosecutors had indicated that if she had not accepted the plea deal, which included a life sentence, they would have dropped the federal case against her, allowing state prosecutors to pursue the death penalty.
Christopher J Wilson, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, stated, "The horrific violence visited upon this family was unimaginable, and nothing will ever make things right."
He continued, "Nevertheless, justice requires a careful consideration of all facts, including the interests of the surviving victim. Based on these considerations, the United States recommended a life sentence be imposed in this case."
What happened at the crime scene?
As per the US Attorney's Office, the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of November 1, 2018, at the family's residence situated off South 130 Street in Muskogee County, Oklahoma.
Investigators stated that Hall initially entered Kayson Toliver's bedroom and fatally shot him in the head while he slept.
Subsequently, she proceeded to the bedrooms of Kloee Toliver and her 14-year-old daughter, where she similarly shot both victims in the head as they slept, according to prosecutors.
Emergency medical services discovered the 16-year-old victim unconscious at the scene.
Despite being rushed to the hospital for treatment, she never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead four days later due to her injuries.
Upon arrival at the scene, a deputy from the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office observed Hall attempting to flee in her vehicle and initiated pursuit.
Following a high-speed chase exceeding 110 mph, law enforcement successfully apprehended Hall by stopping her vehicle and taking her into custody.
Oklahoma City FBI Special Agent in Charge Edward J Gray claimed in a statement, "This crime was gut-wrenching and there is no question the sentencing is just, it is absolutely heartbreaking to think a mother could be capable of shooting her own children while they slept."
