Anderson Cooper faces backlash for 'entitled' questioning of Kamala Harris during Pennsylvania town hall

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA: CNN anchor Anderson Cooper faced significant backlash for his perceived 'entitled' questioning of Vice President Kamala Harris during a town hall in Pennsylvania on Wednesday.

The event, originally meant to be the second debate between Harris and Donald Trump, featured discussions on pressing topics like immigration, abortion, and Harris' tenure as vice president.

Critics on social media accused Anderson Cooper of using his male privilege to speak condescendingly to the vice president. Twitter user Aaron H expressed frustration, stating, "It is infuriating how a white male feels entitled to interrupt the Vice President while she tries to answer a freaking question. Looking at you @andersoncooper."



 



 

Supporters of Harris were particularly incensed that Cooper focused on her record without acknowledging the legacy of her predecessor, who notably did not attend the event.

Chris D Jackson highlighted this discrepancy, asking, "Anderson Cooper just asked Harris why she and Biden haven't fixed all the issues she's talking about over the last four years. Really? I mean, were you in a coma?"

He went on to list significant challenges the administration has tackled, including managing a pandemic and addressing economic recovery.

Another user noted that Cooper’s tone with Harris was markedly different from how he might have addressed Trump, saying, "Anderson Cooper has NEVER talked to Trump with this tone and continue to press for an answer HE wants. NEVER!!"



 

Conversely, some viewers commended Cooper for his persistence when Harris sidestepped questions about immigration. One commenter remarked, "GOING VIRAL: Anderson Cooper Drops Bomb on Kamala Harris: You’ve Been in the White House For 4 Years. Why Haven’t You Done Any of This Already?"



 

While another added, "Even Anderson Cooper is calling her out. But of course she didn't answer the question at all."



 

Anderson Cooper challenges Kamala Harris on border wall funding amid undecided voter audience

During the town hall, Cooper pressed Harris on her stance regarding a border wall, pointing out that funds for its construction were included in a bipartisan bill she had backed. Harris responded by emphasizing her desire to "strengthen our border," without directly addressing the wall's effectiveness.

As the audience comprised undecided voters from Delaware County, Pennsylvania — a crucial swing area — Cooper indicated that the questions had been sourced directly from the audience, assuring viewers they had "not been edited in any way by CNN."
