WASHINGTON, DC: Florida Republican Anna Paulina Luna has asked House Speaker Mike Johnson to install a statue of Charlie Kirk in the US Capitol.

Kirk, a conservative activist and ally of President Donald Trump, was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem. The gunman remains at large.

Anna Paulina Luna credits Charlie Kirk for her political career

Luna described Charlie Kirk as her political mentor, saying she owes her entire career in politics to him.

"I owe my entire political career to Charlie Kirk. I would quite literally not be in office today if it weren’t for him," Luna posted on X, along with photos of her letter to Speaker Mike Johnson.

"Even when my own party was working against me, Charlie endorsed me and campaigned to help me win election,” Luna wrote in her post.

In her letter, Luna urged Johnson to honor Kirk’s legacy permanently. “To honor this legacy, we call upon you to direct that a statue of Charlie Kirk be placed in the United States Capitol. This is not a symbolic gesture, but a permanent testament to his life’s work, his courage and his sacrifice," the letter stated.

"It will stand as a reminder that political disagreement must never be answered with violence, and that the fight for truth must carry on,” Luna added in the letter, which was signed by 15 other GOP lawmakers.

In a letter, Luna described Kirk’s death as a “wound” to the United States and a “stark reminder of the escalating political violence fueled by the divisive and hateful rhetoric from the Left.”

Luna also praised Kirk’s work as co-founder of Turning Point USA. “He loved Jesus Christ with his whole heart, and it was that love that gave him the courage to stand strong in the face of hostility,” she wrote.
