WASHINGTON, DC: Dr Anthony Fauci, former White House chief medical adviser, accused ex-president Donald Trump's staff of providing him misinformation and claimed they were "furious" at him for the Covid-19 pandemic, according to The Hill.

The former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who served both under Trump and President Joe Biden, is a staunch advocate of the Covid-19 vaccine besides being a critic of the former POTUS' baseless claims about the SARS‑CoV‑2 virus.

Fauci talked about the unpleasant experiences he apparently faced from Trump's White House officials while discussing his new book, 'On Call: A Doctor's Journey in Public Service', during an interview with former Washington Post journalist Rick Atkinson on Friday, June 21.

The former NIAID director recalled that, at times, he and Trump got along "very well," and the ex-president agreed with the initial lockdown and social distancing orders that were given in March 2020. Fauci claimed that Trump consented to the measures, hoping that "understandably, but not realistically," the virus would be similar to the flu and "disappear like magic."

"And I was saying you know, it's not," added the immunologist, noting the conflict occurred in the press' presence.

Fauci stated that his disagreement stemmed from the understanding that the virus would not disappear soon since it had a different "nature."

He continued, "We've got to own it. It's a different disease," adding Trump "didn't seem to get that upset with me, but his staff started to be gradually furious with me for doing that."

Fauci asserted that the former president's White House team began to "try to discredit everything I said" after he publicly rejected Trump's claim that hydroxychloroquine, used to treat malaria, could be administered for Covid-19 infections.

"And the White House comms team did something, which the White House people have told me, the first time where they did opposition research on one of their own staff," remarked the former NIAID director.

Fauci, who is accused of trying to suppress the lab leak of Covid-19's origin as a "conspiracy theory," in recent testimony before Congress, turned emotional while recounting the never-ending death threats and harassment his family continues to face to this day.

Internet slams Anthony Fauci over his claims regarding Donald Trump's White House team

Fauci drew flak from netizens for blaming Trump's White House officials for feeding him misinformation and being hostile to him.

One wrote, "Everything Fauci says is unsubstantiated, but you leave that out because you're leftist hacks," and another said, "Fauci's claims were unsubstantiated and the little weasal's lies are responsible for the deaths and injuries of millions."

A person mocked him, saying, "So the super smart doctor let he orange man bamboozle him," whereas one more noted, "Typical. Complete lack of acceptance of responsibility for his egotistical choices. And Greed."

An individual fumed, "What a shock. He’s an absolute snake."

"He's a quack, a crook, and a pawn of the left. His entire goal was to make life as miserable as possible during an election year," expressed one more, and another person wrote, "He is an enemy of the public because of his deliberate and repeated lies."
