NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Alyssa Farah Griffin, during a conversation with Dr Anthony Fauci on 'The View', recounted her attempt to persuade former President Donald Trump to wear a mask during the Covid-19 pandemic by suggesting that he "looked cool" while wearing one.
Dr Fauci appeared on 'The View' to discuss his new book, 'On Call,' which chronicles his tenure as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), including his experiences during the pandemic.

The hosts praised Fauci, with Whoopi Goldberg describing him as "one of the classiest" individuals she has encountered in Washington DC Fauci shared insights into his disagreements with the former president, particularly regarding mask-wearing, according to MediaITE.
“It was very painful for me. I have a great deal of respect for the presidency of the United States of America. I’ve served seven presidents so it wasn’t like, ‘wow, isn’t this cool that I’m contradicting the president,’ it was very, very painful, but I had to do it,” Fauci remarked.

According to the illness expert, Trump "missed opportunity" to better advocate for masking to his "millions and millions of followers."
“He has millions and millions of followers who are very loyal to him. All he had to do was say the CDC is recommending masks, we know it’s going to save lives, do it,'” he stated.

Griffin, a former employee of the Trump administration, recalled attempting to persuade Trump to support masks more by telling him he “looked cool” in one.
“I remember telling him he looked cool in the mask,” Griffin said. “I remember, yeah!” Fauci said.
“I thought might he might be like, ‘okay, fine, I’ll wear it.’ It didn’t work,” Griffin said. “Nice try, Alyssa,” Fauci offered.
In July 2020, Trump tweeted a photo of himself wearing a mask, describing it as "patriotic" and stating that no one is "more patriotic" than he is.
However, in an April press conference, which Fauci mentioned on Thursday, June 20, Trump announced that he would not adhere to health experts' recommendations to wear a mask.
