NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On June 20 episode of 'The View' Dr Anthony Fauci received enthusiastic acclaim from the hosts of ABC's show as he continued his promotional tour for his new book titled 'On Call: A Doctor's Journey in Public Service', which chronicles his fifty-year career as a government health official.

Host Whoopi Goldberg praised Dr Fauci, the former White House chief medical adviser, describing him as "one of the classiest" individuals in Washington, DC.

In the book, he reflects on his experiences managing the AIDS crisis and later the Covid-19 pandemic, including accounts of heated, expletive-laden conversations with former President Donald Trump, and discusses the death threats he has received due to his work.

Goldberg's admiration for Dr Fauci comes amid ongoing criticism of his management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Thank you for coming on the show and everything, everything you've done from the very beginning," Goldberg said to a smiling Fauci, receiving cheers from the audience.

She added, "It's extraordinary and you're no worse for the wear, you look good."

Goldberg continued, "You are probably one of the classiest people I've ever watched move around in Washington, DC."

"I just want to raise my dreads to you," Goldberg added, holding up her hair in salute.

Fauci recently acknowledged that there was no definitive scientific basis for 6ft social distancing and masking children, which has stirred controversy.

Dr Fauci addresses accusations of perjury over lab leak theory

Earlier this month, Fauci testified before a House committee investigating Covid-19's origins, stating that he is "open-minded" about the possibility that the virus originated in a Wuhan lab, despite previously downplaying the theory.

Republicans accused him of lying to the committee about his stance on the lab leak hypothesis, suggesting he could face perjury charges.

"If trying to save people's lives is a crime, then I'm guilty," Fauci told the admiring hosts of 'The View' when questioned about the possibility of criminal charges.

"What are the charges?" he said, "That you saved millions of lives with the vaccine that you helped develop or that you got people to do things that were interventions that made them more safe against a deadly pandemic that killed 1.2 million people?"

"I quite frankly don't know what they are talking about," Fauci said.

During the interview, he also mentioned that he "likes the idea" of Fauci facing criminal charges over his conduct during the pandemic and for allegedly lying to Congress.

Netizens slams Whoopi Goldberg

Goldberg's admiration for Dr Fauci was not well-received by the show's viewers as several expressed their opposing views.

A viewer expressed in Daily Mail's article, "I’m Done With Whoopi Goldberg. She is so ignorant to the facts of what Fauci did & how his hands are bloody with the Lives of the lost citizens of this wonderful. But for him Coronavirus would have stayed in Bats and not transferred to humans."

Similarly, another observer added, "'Classy' is not a word that anyone on the View would understand..."

Furthermore, a viewer pointed out, "Oh please, they would adore this limelight loving liar. The View is a joke."

Joining the discussion, a follower shared, "Evil loves evil. Darkness promotes the night. Fauci actively covered the facts, showing that he helped develop the virus and then made millions off of the deaths of 15 million people."

A remark underscored, "The View sold their souls to the devil. His name is Fauci."

Similarly, another comment echoed, "Can lying to a whole nation about Covid ever be classy, Whoopi?"

Delving deeper into the topic, an individual elaborated, " Whoopi must have incredibly low or no standards. Not the sharpest tool in the shed."
