BUFFALO, NEW YORK: On January 24, Erie County District Attorney John J Flynn declared that Anthony Reynolds, a 32-year-old resident of Buffalo, New York, had been sentenced to 12 ½ years in prison, with an additional 5 years of post-release supervision.
This verdict was delivered by Supreme Court Justice Paul B Wojtaszek, as per ALL WNY. Reynolds fatally stabbed the victim on the city’s West Side as announced by the Erie County District Attorney’s Office.
Who was the victim?
Authorities reported that on April 6, 2023, Anthony Reynolds, aged 32, stabbed 26-year-old Marquese Smith in the torso inside a building on West Utica Street, located between Linwood Avenue and Main Street.
Unfortunately, Marquese Smith succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to WIVB.
On November 29, 2023, Anthony Reynolds entered a guilty plea to the most severe charge in the indictment against him, specifically one count of manslaughter in the first degree, which is classified as a serious Class "B" felony.
Detective Erin McCarthy of the Buffalo Police Department was praised by DA Flynn for her diligent efforts in the investigation. Providing additional context, the case was prosecuted by former assistant district attorney Stephen C Earnhart and Chief Justin T Wallens of the Felony Trials Bureau.
The motive for the stabbing was not known
As per WKBW, the motive behind the stabbing remains unknown. In November 2023, reports indicated that Reynolds continued to be held without bail. His sentencing was scheduled for January 24, 2024, and he faced the prospect of a 12-year prison term.
In a parallel incident last year, a Buffalo man was apprehended in connection to a fatal stabbing. Buffalo police were summoned to a stabbing incident in the 400 block of Niagara Street in June of the preceding year.
As per WGRZ, upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Tremaine Mayfield, aged 49 and from Buffalo, with a severe stab wound to his chest. According to police reports, the stabbing occurred in the aftermath of a domestic incident.
