Anthony Siple: Oregon man faces murder charges after woman he attacked with can of food dies of injuries
MEDFORD, OREGON: An Oregon man is slapped with murder charges after the woman whom he reportedly attacked with a can of food succumbed to her injuries. According to the Medford Police Department, Jessa Delyon, 51, died on December 5, nearly three weeks after he was attacked on the street.
Anthony Siple, 22, was arrested on November 18 after police alleged he called 911 and said he had assaulted a woman and described him as making 'somewhat incoherent statements.' Several other 911 callers also reported the attack saying a woman was screaming and a man was assaulting her, according to police.
According to the reports of KDRV, Rogue Valley Times and KOBI5, the authorities stated that the defendant allegedly attacked the woman with a can of food.
Jessa Deylon and Anthony Siple didn't know each other
The authorities further noted that Delyon lived in the area of the assault and frequently went on walks in the area. It is believed Delyon and Siple did not know each other prior to the alleged assault.
Jessa Deylon's daughter set up a GoFundMe for her mother
According to an update posted by Delyon’s daughter on a GoFundMe page, Delyon had suffered significant brain injuries before she eventually died.
“We donated her heart, lungs, liver and both kidneys and saved the lives of 5 people,” wrote Delyon’s daughter Moira Cavanaugh, adding “We also donated her pancreas and skin cells to research. She wanted to do both and I'm so glad I got to make sure she contributed to both organ donation and medical research.”
What charges does Anthony Siple face?
After Delyon’s death, Siple, who had initially been charged with assault and attempted murder, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and robbery, police say.
"This case was presented to the Jackson County Grand Jury, who determined that there was probable cause to arrest Siple on the above listed charges," a release from the Medford Police Department said, adding "He remains lodged at the Jackson County Jail where he has been since his arrest on November 18th."
MPD said records show Siple is homeless, from the Ashland area, with minor contacts with law enforcement in Jackson County during the past year which include arrests for relatively minor crimes. It is not immediately clear if Siple has entered a plea to any of the updated charges. KOBI5 reported that he pleaded not guilty to the original charges.
