WASHINGTON, DC: In a fiery response to an anonymous "senior Democrat" who reportedly stated that former President Donald Trump would win the 2024 election after surviving an assassination attempt, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has demanded that the unnamed congressperson step down.

According to Axios, the senior Democrat remarked, "We’ve all resigned ourselves to a second Trump presidency," following Trump’s narrow escape from an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania.

In a post on X, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, widely known as AOC, did not mince words.

She urged the anonymous congress member to retire, stating, "If you’re a ‘senior Democrat’ that feels this way, you should absolutely retire and make space for true leadership that refuses to resign themselves to fascism. This kind of leadership is functionally useless to the American people. Retire."

The incident that sparked this controversy occurred when 20-year-old Thomas Crooks shot Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The assailant, stationed on a rooftop, succeeded in shooting Trump in the upper ear, while another bullet sadly struck and killed a rally attendee before Secret Service agents neutralized Crooks.

The near-fatal incident involving Trump has heightened discussions about President Joe Biden's suitability for re-election, particularly following his perceived lackluster performance in a debate against Trump last month.

Many pundits argue that Trump's resilience, symbolized by his defiant fist pump even as blood streamed down his face, starkly contrasted with Biden's faltering public appearances.

Calls for Biden, 81, to step aside have grown louder, with 19 congressional Democrats (18 in the House and one in the Senate), along with high-profile donors and supporters like George Clooney, urging him to relinquish his re-election bid.

However, Ocasio-Cortez remains a staunch supporter of Biden's candidacy, aligning herself with figures like Bernie Sanders.

Sanders, the independent senator from Vermont, defended Biden in a New York Times piece, stating, "Mr Biden may not be the ideal candidate, but he will be the candidate and should be the candidate. And with an effective campaign that speaks to the needs of working families, he will not only defeat Mr Trump but beat him badly."

Contrarily, independent Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, a former Democrat, criticized the strong support for Biden despite his lackluster debate performance, suggesting it illustrated the far-left's grip on the current administration.
