WASHINGTON, DC: Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson has asserted that former President Donald Trump has undergone a significant transformation following a near-fatal shooting incident, as reported by Mediaite.
The former Fox News host, who is expected to attend the Republican National Convention, shared his thoughts with Axios, stating, "I think it’s real. Getting shot in the face changes a man."
Is Donald Trump a changed man after assassination attempt?
Trump, who had been preparing a major speech for the convention, revealed that the event's tone would now be markedly different.
Speaking to reporters, he said, "The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger. Had this not happened, this would’ve been one of the most incredible speeches. Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now."
Trump emphasized that the incident presented an opportunity to unite the country, adding, "It is a chance to bring the country together. I was given that chance."
The incident occurred when Thomas Matthew Crooks from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, fired shots at a Trump rally. Crooks and another audience member were killed during the chaos. Reflecting on the traumatic event, Trump gave his first interview the day after the rally.
He recounted his conversation with a doctor at the hospital, telling The New York Post, "The doctor at the hospital said he never saw anything like this, he called it a miracle." Trump added, "I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead."
Trump expressed gratitude towards the Secret Service for their swift action. "They took him out with one shot right between the eyes," Trump said of Crooks. "They did a fantastic job. It’s surreal for all of us."
He also praised the rally attendees for their composure, saying, "A lot of places, especially soccer games, you hear a single shot, everybody runs. Here there were many shots and they stayed. I love them. They are such great people."
Trump's near-death experience appeared to momentarily bridge the political divide.
In a Sunday night, July 14, Oval Office address, President Joe Biden spoke about the necessity of lowering the political temperature. "The need for us to lower the temperature," Biden emphasized, aligning rhetorically with Trump on this significant issue.
